GAMO .177 Varmint Air Rifle Accuracy

I recently purchased a GAMO air rifle to use for recreational purposes, and to use for some general pest control. The rifle came with a 4x32 scope. I attempted to sight in the rifle, but it seemed like the rifle was making dinner plate sized groupings at 30 yards. The problem is that all of these were to the left of the target. I spent close to an hour, trying to adjust the scope, but the rifle consistently shot to the left. I got closer, and fired the rifle at approximatley 20 yards without the scope, and noticed that the shots were still to the left. Is there something that I am doing wrong? Does the rifle just need to be broken in? I am using Crosman .177 pellets. Thanks.

It doesn’t look like there is a moderator for the pellets to clip on the way out of the end of the barrel like my Gamo Maxxim has but take a close look at the crown of the barrel to see if there is a noticeable but or deformation that the pellet could be striking.

The best I could do with mine at a very similar distance was a 3” 8 shot group. I would say don’t beat yourself up trying to get things any tighter than that. I believe that’s as good as its goons get at that price from that manufacturer.

Even though I was disappointed in my Gamo springer I bought a Gamo Urban and a cheap hand pump and have never looked back. I got both for under $250 with good timing and discounts. Nickel sized groups at 30 yards. It’s stupid fun to shoot and is well built. Wish I would have went that route first and saved my time with the springer.

Best wishes.

Tim.
