Game flinch

I was shooting Prairie Dogs last month I had a Hatsan Gladius .22 and a friends Vulcan .25. On the last day I had a few dogs pop up within 30 yards, of course they only showed me their heads. I was noticing that I was missing but the pellet was hitting where the dog was when using the Gladius, and figured out that the dog was ducking the pellet. It is my belief that the noise from the hammer spring and mechanism was pretty loud. I bought Taipan and seems to be much quieter and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens.

Jim, have you ever noticed a deer flinching from the sound of your release before the arrow hits the target?

Arrows make a lot of noise headed downrange out of modern bows. I never realized while I was shooting, but when other people were shooting in the loft of the barn while I was working downstairs, it sounds like an incoming missile.

shooter, I had my WC out yesterday for the first time with my new DonnyFL SUMO moderator. I bagged two doves and a bunny. No flinching noticed. Man, is that SUMO quiet! The first time I shot her in the field, I thought I dry-fired, All heard was the hammer strike! Then I heard the smack of lead on target and saw the little yellow splash on the Shoot-N-C.

If I go back to the Daystate Pulsar with its electronic trigger and valving system, it'll be virtually mute! All I'll hear is the smack of pellet on pelt!

Here is a video of me shooting close to my phone from 50 yards. You can't hear the Kral Puncher Breaker, just the zing-pop of the pellet. 5 shots with the 14.3g CPHP and 5 shots with the 28.5g eungin.

The faster pellets have a much higher pitch on the inbound leg. The CPHP are also a harder alloy than the eungin pellets.
