Game farms...Why I get heart burn with them!

So when I see this praising article with this smiling person and world record hunting on a game farm in South Texas, I roll my eyes. I can’t consider an animal hunted on a game farm, regardless, as fair chance which should be considered a world record. Sorry with the way they hunt in Texas and all that is legal I kind of consider it a video game aka a joke.

It's not just Texas, I'm afraid. The entity that put a potential world record Auodad in front of Shayna M. and her .50 Umarex Hammer is called "The Airgun HUnting Legion ". They apparently hold canned hunts all over N. America (including Canada). And, it appears they like to use the .50 Umarex Hammer.

There are quite a few hits on Yahoo (176,000) for them.

What I'm trying to figure out is why hard air magazine and even the Airgun Hunting Legion: https://airgunhuntinglegion.com/trophy/shayna-m-137-6-8 .... Are keeping her partially unidentified: "Shayna M." is all that is given to identify her. Why hide her surname?

The whole idea of tracking her down strikes me a bit repulsive. Not my business who she is, who her fiancee is ... and the thread isn't really about her.

'Tracking her down' ? Why would you think that? I'm curious about why her identity (& that of her fiance) is being withheld from the public. Usually when that happens, its a red flag for a cover up of some sort.

Lets keep in mind ... She has a pending WORLD RECORD! That means international recognition. Her name ( & the name of the person who made it all possible) should be in the public domain.

They are doing this so PETA doesn't try and get her fired from her job, or throw red paint on her and her car. Not to bring politics into this, but these PETA folks seriously rub me and my Democratic registration card the wrong way.

I did some research on the airgun hunting legion. They seem to be a new outfit. Been around for less than a year. Seem to have come into existence around September 2020. They call themselves 'the 'largest airgun community'. Putting on canned hunts w/ the intention of taking 'world record class' animals is what they do. It's not just Ms. M's identity that is being withheld. Everyone who has taken a world record animal in the past year has had their surname withheld from the public too.

That's some good info, thanks!

So, they are like the Dana White/UFC of hunting? Instead of trying to unseat boxing, or go up against the PKA, they created their own sport, so they could profit. I wonder did they decide to organize around the use of airguns to bypass more stringent liability on powder burners?

Either way, damn PETA could give a care how you harvested game, we're all demon spawns in their eyes regardless.

Folks I don’t give really a rats butt who she is or who she is married to. If they do claim it as a world record ( a false one) it will have to come out, it’s kind of part of the game. You clearly see her face it will all eventually come out and I agree PETA is a concern. And why anyone brought up the phone number thing to me is kind of weird. This string was about the legitimacy of canned hunt.

However as I see here there will also be a shadow about the legitimacy of the hunt because it was done on a game farm. I’m sure at the end of each day of the hunt she and the others went to a nice comfy spa like lodge for a good meal and comfy bed.

And, we seem to all agree her kill is not ever going to truly ever be a world record because of the circumstances she got the animal.

Also I did comment about heading to central Idaho for bighorn sheep with no creature comforts much cell phone service for days and definitely sleeping on the ground in a tent and at best a cot. And I commented to that self proclaimed Airgun hunting records about what a joke these type of records are.

A couple of things too, if you look further into the the photos of the "world record" page, there are photos of a lodge seen on other videos and the woman shooting at a bench, so she has already been on YouTube on another channel.

Anyways, I think it is great the more people we can get back into hunting the better, firearms or air arms. I read that it was millennials who were the biggest purchasers in the firearms purchase surge.

That kind of hunting in my opinion is like the kids fishing pond. Maybe it’s a huge pond and in rugged terrain, but it’s a stocked pond. If I remember correctly the Boone and Crockett records can’t come from a farm. Some farms are raising incredibly huge whitetail bucks these days and they won’t qualify for the Boone and Crockett record book, which is good I think.

I saw that. You should check out their 'stories' page too. Talk about S-T-O-R-I-E-S, Gnomesayin? I get the impression AHL: this fly by night group; is controlled opposition, created to make airgun hunters look bad.

@longfellow, one very simple way to confirm you suspensions. I will email / call Airguns of Arizona and see if they have any affiliation. Here is my email to AOA. Sorry I want Boone and Crockett standards because game farms are bad for hunters, yes, and the animals trapped within them and if someone from Colorado who stated he is going to Idaho for elk does a game farm, I thumbs down and drop his channel. Politics and Ethics, I never give up my ethics for anyone.

Damn, I miss spoke and forgot to say game farms are NOT considered the same status as wild. IS B&C perfect no, I think Pope and Young has stricter standards https://pope-young.org/bowhunting/position_statement.asp

Looks like a good email, Peter. During the research I did last night, I did see that Umarex supports the AHL.

Okay one thing I am proud of is under Idaho law, Idaho enforces fair chase standards, if you violate the fair chase standards of the state, the hammer comes down.

For example, Idaho's stance on electronics and integration on your gun...simply says don't do it! Though airarms aren't mentioned, for big game hunting use of an airarm falls under the same as a firearm. You can use an attachment to film but hunt, i.e. gopro, but something like an ATN scope is strictly forbidden.

I have walls full of trophy class deer. When I finally started getting good at getting them, mid 1990’s, the game farm thing started making a mockery of the record books that I always dreamed of being in. It was then I realized that my bucks were too special to be in that book and I’m fine with it. After all, I hunt to impress myself, not others.

Sure is a lot of saltiness here. Most states have VERY limited AG hunting, and I think most that allow any kind of "big" game, deer is your only option. Not like you get to go to Idaho and hunt elk, mule deer, sheep, or bears with your AG. Private fenced ranches are one of the few options for large game. Let the young woman have her trophy. It certainly takes nothing away from any of you ole salty dogs.

@Loren, you are completely wrong, in 2019 Idaho allows hunting large / big game animals with air guns. For deer, proghorn you need 35 cal with min 350 ft/lbs and for moose, elk and bighorn sheep you need min 45 with also min 350 ft/lbs at the muzzle.

My issue is they are calling it a world record. No game farm animal is ever a world record because it isn’t truly wild. If the article wouldn’t have had the “world record” comment then I would haven’t said a thing.

I just will never consider such hunts more than petting zoo hunts.

Why do you feel it necessary to insult those whom you disagree w/?

Salty Dog. In the mid Illinois region such as any area between Chicago and Joliet this word is used to define an individual after he/she does something stupid, ridiculous, or embarrassing.
