FX Wildcat with Huma-Air Regulator

All,

Just wanted to share my results after installing a HUMA regulator in my FX Wildcat .22

The wildcat wasn't shooting consistently so I decided to pick up a HUMA-Air Regulator. The gun was shooing initially below 800 fps, and at times it seem to be more like 600 fps. After setting and installing the HUMA regulator, I am up over 1000 fps shooting a 11.75 grain pellet. Many thanks to John @ New England Airguns

Congratulations Allen on getting a true Fun Gun...and for sidestepping the FX reg problem by having New England Airguns install a Huma regulator! After shooting it for a while shoot over John's chronograph some more and tell us what kind of numbers you're getting. I am guessing that it will shoot the JSB 16 grain pellets at around 900 ft/s...and that being heavier they would be more accurate at long range than the lighter pellets. Have you tried them yet? Tell us what your reg pressure is set at and how many shots you are currently getting on a fill if you know.

I haven't had a chance to try the GTO's yet....but while I am here I'll tell you something funny. Today I pulled my Huma reg out of my .25 Streamline and turned the reg way up as an experiment to see how it would shoot the JSB 34 grainers at 850 ft/s. Well, I must have turned it up too far because when I shot some pellets over my chrono here in the house after the change, the 34's were going average of 897 ft/s! :) I almost peed my pants laughing out loud! So I am going to go shoot them at 50 yards in the morning to see what happens! Wish me luck! :-o

I just wanted to say something about this reg question. If my reg ever goes wrong, I'll be getting a huma reg because I have heard/seen some really good stuff about them and that they out perform the FX reg almost every time.

But I also want to say, somewhat in defense of FX (and I have nothing to gain). My WC was shooting all over the place when I got it. I sent it back to AoA and they replaced the reg with another FX reg and tuned the gun a bit. When I got it back I noticed it was shooting the 25's at about 890-905, slightly lower than when I sent it in with what I assume was a bad reg. 
I got out the chrono and shot several strings and compared them to the previous strings on the old reg. They were night and day. With the old reg the ES was about 25-29 over those strings. I had fliers, I had drop off. It was sad. but the strings with the new reg are amazing. Total ES of 9 over 48 shots. And this thing is suddenly my second favorite gun only to my Crown. 

So I said all that to say, I think if you get a good reg, like this new one seems to be, FX makes a pretty good reg. However, as I said before, if this one dies, I'll get a Huma.

That's the funny part Bill. I won't know until I get my new Huma reg tester that was shipped out a few days ago...I just arbitrarily turned it up about 1/3rd of a turn and put it back in the gun and started shooting over my chrono...I was actually shooting for 850 ft/s but ended up with 897-900. I have always wondered how these 34's would shoot at 900 ft/s and was feeling a little adventurous today, so tomorrow morning I get to find out! :) I love to experiment with my guns as much as I like to shoot them and my Huma's allow me to do that.

Which brings me to your remarks about the FX regs in the Wildcat...my original FX reg worked fantastic until it didn't. At which point my velocity began fluctuating all over the place and I sent it to AOA to have it rebuilt for $70.00. The day I mailed the original one back I bought a new one for $220.00 and had it overnighted to me so I could have a new one in my gun, and figured I would use the other one for a spare whenever I got it back. Well it wasn't long before the second one started giving me problems like you described and that's when I said to hell with this bullpoop and contacted Huub and asked him to make me a Huma reg for my Wildcat. He did not want to do it initially but finally agreed on the condition that I take all the necessary measurements with my calipers and forward the data to him. I actually made the decision on the plenum spacer rings also. I chose 7.3mm for the Streamline plenum if I remember correctly, and 15mm for the Wildcat plenum. The rest is history...now he has hundreds of them sold already. 

The advantages are threefold: greater reliability and consistency - greater shot count - and they can easily be adjusted up or down to suit your desired power output. So if you ever notice your velocity getting weird try a Huma on for size Bill. I promise you won't regret it.

That's 61 ft lbs of energy out of that Streamline .25 with the 34's!! Anxious to see the results of your testing. Which JSB 34's do you have for testing, King Heavy, MK II, EDgun??

 good morning just loading my gear in the truck to head over and do some shooting and testing... will get back to you later on today with some results. But I'm having a very cool thought right now... If these things shoot halfway accurate at 900 feet per second, it'll be interesting to see what my streamline does on medium power and low power. Like maybe I could shoot it for paper punching on low-power and get lots of shots and then if I want to use it for hunting just crank it up the full power and put a smack down on something big time! :) catch you later alligator
