It does look like the front tab is bent in a bit if you bend it back go slow you don’t want to make bigger than it’s supposed to be.

My only worry is that it may not load the pellet properly resulting in deformation of the pellet

I'd say it probably is. Thats a flow through bolt probe. Now its effectively splitting the airs path to the base of the pellet. I'd remove the probe and use the appropriate size tapered punch and try to straighten it out.
