I think this will answer your question..... you can buy these at homedepot and return to them without cover and they won't care... it's still brand new because you haven't cut the opening to used it yet... or same them for when you need it.. only $3 or so per tube..
You have not returned the item, not in its purchased form, you have taken something and returned it yet took a refund, does not sit well with me.
You should have just kept the silicon and kept it and then used the cap for your project.
