FX Wildcat MkIII .177 - What a Mistake - fixed with a Vet

It could simply be a bad liner. I did happen with my mk2 wildcat. But for me I had another .177 barrel and liner, as I bought a .22 barell kit for another Fx gun. I have since then have no issues with my wildcat. Did try the barrel in another gun on a later stage, but nevet got it to group really well. About the bad liner skipping quality controll, or testing is another question though. My gun came straight from the factory, as it was a preorder from the dealer.

I can tolerate a cheap gun that won’t shoot. I just roll up my sleeves and get to work. I don’t tolerate any gun over $1,000 that won’t shoot. I don’t mind making slight improvements on expensive guns but for gods sake, they better shoot out of the box. Especially at 16 yards, that’s CO2 pistol distance. Rid yourself of it for a platform that performs out of the box without having to jump through hoops. I commend you for sending it back because most guys can’t let go of their new toy and embrace the aggravation. F that.

Exactly my thoughts. I've already been down that road - kept the gun I really wanted to like, try everything under the sun to get it to shoot straight. By the time you're done you don't have an item you can return and are left with nothing but frustration. It's a great feeling if it works out, but in this case the gain was not worth the pain.

I don't mean to be a total FX basher, but this is why I'll never own another FX, with the exception of the Royale platform. IMO, that rifle defines the perfect application for the original, solid smooth twist barrel. I am frequently amazed at the length to which many people will go in trying to get some of these FX rifles running right. But, I guess if you like to tinker, they answer that call.

I purchased a trashed 177 compact cricket 4 years ago from AOA broken gauge and the gun just degas on me same day it arrived.. new gauge new orings in a bad treated 10 year old gun..awesome shooter not a hiccup in 4 years..this how it looks now with the NOS one hole stock..

Congratulations!

How fast do you have the Vet shooting and how many shots per fill?

I have a gray laminate in 22 cal. I dialed mine down to around 780 fps and I'm getting 120-130 shots down to 110 bar on the air gauge from a 250 bar fill. I have found that mine likes a firm hold on the grip when shooting rested with a bipod for best accuracy.

These groups are what I can do any day with the Taipan. I don't know if these are considered ggod or bad but I'm happy with them. Wish they were just one hole but those are rare for me. Ha ha!

That is to bad that you had such poor shooting with the Wildcat. I loved mine in 177 and should have never sold it. If I hadn't I wouldn't have experienced the Taipan. I DO prefer the forward cocking lever of the Wildcat over the rear cocking of the vet. I hope Taipan comes out with a new model with forward cocking lever OR a retro fit kit to convert existing vets to a forward side lever. Anyway, still a great pup.

@GreenArrow - just a quick tune ~910 fps with JSB 10.3s. Very nice out to 40-45 yards.

I really want to see if I can get the H&N Barracuda Match 10.6s shooting well @ 18 fpe for FT. I feel like they handle wind better than the JSB. I tried the 4.52mm head and results were not to good. Then I tried the 4.50mm head and they show more promise - just need to mess with the speed a bit to see if I can find a tight grouping tune.

I have no idea on shot count. I'm filling to 250 bar and refilling anywhere around 140-170 bar. I feel like I'm getting 70-80 shots in that range with a 18-20fpe tune.

I'll be posting my experiences over on this thread: https://www.airgunnation.com/topic/going-full-circle-my-new-taipan-vet-177-standard/?referrer=1

I'd rather let this thread die with my Wildcat return.
