Tuning Fx Wildcat Gen 1 leaking issue

So because of life events my Gen 1 .25 Wildcat had been sitting with approx 190 bar for several months. Yesterday I went to take a look at it and the guage read zero. I attempted to fill but right by the rear of the air tube or cocking bolt area I heard the hiss of pressure escaping as soon as I pressurized it. Anyone have an idea how big a deal this is ? I have several orings I purchased a couple of years ago for my .25 Impact so I should be good there for supply. Just asking so when I attempt to disassemble the gun I don't take apart more than is needed. Link to a video would be appreciated.

What happened after trying the double load 2 pellet trick-?

Anyway one of my older Gen1 WCs did that full leak out during prolonged storage and wouldn't hold air when first attempting to refill so I unscrewed the shroud endcap to not blow it out with the 2 double loaded pellets then filled and leaked a little then fired several times then banged it lot with a rubber mallet alternating shooting then banging in between then it stopped leaking and didnt need to do anything else.

I am having the same problem as you with my Gen 1 Wildcat. I posted about it a while ago and some thought the regulator o-rings were bad. I decided to replace the regulator with a Huma tuning regulator just to have the ability to up the power a little and to not have to take apart the regulator though it does look straight forward. I have tried installing both the Huma several times and it still leaks out the vent hole. I also replace the outer o-rings on the FX regulator and the Huma too and both still leak. I also tried varying degrees of silicone grease and oil on the orings and air still comes out the vent hole at different rates till the cylinder is empty in either a few hours to overnight. I am not sure that the problem would be the valve seat as the air is coming from the vent hole. If you get yours fix please post your results. Bill

It sounds as if that gun has been over pressurized above the 230 spec not just by 20 bar, but a heck of a lot more, and stored that way. Not saying you did it, but maybe a previous owner did as a way to increase the shot count(assuming it’s used).

Also, check the spacer to make sure it’s cut perfectly square. A slight miter cut on the spacer will force the regulator to push against the spacer at an angle, which will compromise the air tube if you can picture that.

you may want to try going up one to two sizes in the regulator o rings to see if this’ll create the seal. If no efforts work, just rest assured that a new wildcat air tube can be had thru FXUSA.

I would be hesitant about using any Teflon tape on the outside of the reg. A piece of the tape could easily end up in the valve stem/valve seat and create another leak, forcing you deeper into the disassembly process of the gun, and forcing you to possibly swap out more o rings that comprise of the valve areas. It’s no different of the bits and pieces of o ring material that clog up things that we hear about all the time.

Unsure of how the factory reg is designed, but I know on the Huma, a leak thru the vent hole after all other gun seals have been addressed, is coming from the regulators internal o rings, allowing the high pressure air to seep out thru the regs vent hole and out the wildcats vent hole.

Lets hope it’s that, vs what I described in the previous reply, as the regulators are pretty simple to rebuild. FXUSA should have a rebuild kit as Huma does for their regs.

Bigragu I appreciate your input. I am the original owner of the rifle and use a Joe Brancato Great White cf tank to fill my rifles and I trust his gages in being accurate. I never overfill so I do not think that is the problem. I have install Huma regulators into my other rifles with no problems. As far as the FX regulator it may indeed be the other o-rings to be replaced, but it is strange the new Huma is leaking out of the vent hole too. I will have to watch Ernest R's video on rebuilding the regulator again to check the o-ring sizes. I like you thought if I went up from a 23.3 x 2.4 which I think is the outter o-ring to maybe a 23.5 x 2.5 to see if that works. One thing I watched in the video by Airbuks was that he stated to install the regulator's vent hole a quarter turn past where the bottom of the tube screws down, where in Ernest does not mention doing that so I don't know if or why that might be important. I would like to get it fixed without sending it off for repair but is good I have other air rifles to shoot. Bill

A follow up report. I decided to try again after the above post since I have most of the orings on hand for many of my rifles. I tried replacing the inner body orings on the FX regulator and the body fit was much tighter going back in than coming out which gave me hope but it leaked even worst than before out the vent hole. I then decided to try the Huma again and lubed it well with some recently bought silicone oil and installed the regulator. At this point after the fill I could not detect any leak out the vent hole. I will see if it hold air over night.

Bigragu, which gun are you referring to when you state that it was possibly overfilled ? I definitely never filled my Wildcat past its 230 bar recommended pressure level.

I had personally witnessed this what I all described on an MK2 I worked on for a friend. He wanted no more than 880 FPS, so I pulled the Huma reg out to readjust it, then after re assembly of the gun and a pressure fill, that gun leaked from every part of that air tube. Areas that I never even opened up, like the front end of the air tube. When I pulled all the o rings out they all just looked flattened and pushed to one side, away from the air pressure. Ive been in and out of a few wildcats, and I’ve never seen o rings that out of shape.

The reg would not seal, even after I resealed it with a brand new Huma reseal kit. I ended up replacing the reg for a brand new one as I always keep a spare, and replaced the spacer that wasn’t cut square(home made spacer was originally in there). The leak finally stopped.
