FX USA

Well, after a frustrating troubleshooting and repair attempt on my Impact I contacted Ernest and am sending it to him. To FX USA to be exact in Wilmington, NC. Will be interesting to see what is wrong with my gun. After a rebuild it will shoot lights out for about 8-10 magazines then the power goes to heck and there is no change with a change on the power wheel. This has happened to me 3 times now and each time I thought I had it fixed.

As an aside, when I dropped it off at UPS and the gal asked me what it was, I told her is was a pellet gun. She said she would reword it as a pellet launcher. Then we had a good chat, she and her dad hunt squirrels with pellet guns.

I have had the power adjuster on FX rifles apart MANY times and I have a feeling I know what is wrong with yours when it stops working after a few magazines worth of shooting. It will be very interesting to hear what FX USA reports as the repair for the power adjuster. Please keep us informed when you get the rifle back.

Sorry, did not mean it to come across that way. Rather I did not want to take anything away from the OP's work being done by FX USA. So now that you asked .....

The power wheel adjuster is actually very simple once it is out of the breech block. There are a few O-rings that must be in good condition and the adjuster wheel must turn readily to each of the power settings and be held in place to provide a notable click at each setting. We have found some of the assemblies tend to lock up completely if the screw on the wheel is tightened to what seems a proper amount (a function of the ported tube length with respect to the adjuster tube length). If this happens, a person may leave this screw less tight than it needs to be to hold the assembly together so it functions correctly as just noted. So I would guess the failure the OP is seeing is due to O-rings being torn during reassembly, and/or the screw holding the adjuster wheel on has been tightened less than is required to hold it securely to the internal ported tube. Once loose, the adjuster wheel will turn on the end of the ported tube without turning the tube itself. Hence, no change in power when turning the adjuster the wheel.

Or I could be completely off-base, which is why I asked he let us know what the problem was found to be.

Hmmm .... That is truly odd.

When you had the assembly out of the rifle, did you turn the wheel to see if all three holes between the adjuster tube and ported tube lined up at the 120° intervals as it is supposed to do?

When the power adjuster was assembled and in the rifle, did the adjusting wheel turn readily and with notable clicks for each of the three settings?

Regardless, I hope FX-USA sorts it all out for you.

UPDATE: Got my gun back from Ernest at FX USA. It is fixed and shoots like a champ. Cost was very reasonable. However, there was no information on what was wrong or what was done to the gun. When I called and talked to Ernest about it, he was not very informative. He has a lot of Impacts he is working on and he was not able to tell me specifically what he did to mine. It would be nice if he would keep a record of any work done on a particular gun and include it when the gun is sent back to the owner. We concerned "parents" want to know what is happening with our "children".

I would guess didn't want to is probably more like it. These fixologists usually don't want us commoners playing with the internals of our "kids".
