Tuning FX Tuner question

I installed my FX tuner yesterday and hope the weather cooperates and I can get out this weekend to do some testing. I was watching a video that mentioned starting with the tuner turned out flush to the end of the barrel (and tuning for velocity) so that's where I'm at right now. I cut two thin strips of white label tape to mark the index on the tuner portion and the carbon fiber shroud and am using scotch tape to keep it there. I was wondering what my fellow air gunners were using to mark the settings on their tuners. Has anyone successfully used the tuner for a high power and low power setting on the same reg/tune, possibly with different projectiles? I was thinking along the lines of a light weight slug tune with the standard Superior liner and turning the power down for pellets. Or using two different weight slugs in the Heavy liner.

Hey, how’s it going? These new tuners are designed for the very final, fine tuning of your air gun. It is meant to make the final step of dialing your air gun a bit easier. You still will need to make the adjustments to your gun with the regulator, micro, macro wheels and valve adjuster when switching ammo. This new tuner was never meant to be a device to let you switch between projectiles and slug weights, stuff like that. It’s really just to make the last step of fine tuning easier. Other than that, I think you’re on the right track, I’d use a piece of tape and mark little hash marks on it too. Have fun with it.

I'm doing fine, thanks. I was hoping to be able to get it shooting well around 900fps as opposed to 950fps due to the difference in sound without a moderator, but I guess I'll likely have to go with the higher fps. I'll still waste a bunch of air and ammo trying the lower speed though.

You might be able to find a spot for one tune mark it and then turn it down for pellets and find another sweet spot for that and mark it some how so you can distinguish which one is for which tune I don't know but the harmonics would probably change from one to the next especially slug to pellet just a thought

If it did work for a couple of different ammo weights or types I was thinking of buying different colored pin stripe tape and using that to differentiate one from the other. Would likely need something like clear nail polish over top of it to keep it in place and still be removable. Pic of the current marks held on with some shiny scotch tape.

So far I have shot 36 groups with the tuner in my quest to tune for a particular velocity. That is over 4 full revolutions of the weight from the initial start point. Yesterday I ran into 2 issues, one was hammer spring creep due to the screw backing out and slowing down the rifle. I was second guessing setting up my chronograph, glad that I did set it up. The other was that I wasn't paying attention and ended up tightening the tuner weight over the area that I bad my mark on the barrel held on with scotch tape. Unfortunately for me, the group size opened up when I backed off the tuner and moved the tape/mark which had created more tension on the tuner weight. That little bit of extra tension was beneficial for group size.

I reset my hammer spring and put on some blue lock tight last night and will go out again in a few days and re-shoot the groups and go to 5 full revolutions on the tuner to see if it makes a difference. If it doesn't I'm thinking about cherry picking the best group/setting and slowly increasing the velocity with my valve adjuster to see how that effects the group size. If I don't come to anything satisfactory at that point, I'll back the tuner off to the start point and find the best group size vs velocity and then fine tune with the tuner. That would be in the 930-950fps range from what I've seen with these slugs in previous tests with the factory shroud on. After literally thousands of shots through this rifle, I'm still trying to develop a consistent hold and trigger feel. It seems like when I grab the gun and don't "feel" anything I shoot my best groups and when I'm paying attention to my trigger/cheek/shoulder I don't shoot as well. Maybe it's just too much trying to experiment and be consistent with the hold.

I am surprised how come nobody came up with an electronic trigger for these micro tuning the FX Impacts.

Ten-fifteen years ago we had a hydraulic release for compound bows - release training, which was initially developed for curing target panic. I was using one for several months as well back than :) but I have seen a electronic releases as well, those got banned from competition so I did not got that one.

@corvid_hunter I know airgun suppressors are prohibited in Canada, but are faux supressors legal and is anyone making/using them? I'm thinking about two things: 1) additional weight at the end of the barrel may work well in concert with the harmonic tuner, and is how the tuner was developed. 2) help direct muzzle blast down-range. 3) Extra credit: may also look cooler than a bare muzzle.

Some other commercial options:

At least in the US, linear comps and 'blast cans' are not considered suppressors since they do not have closed ends. These are used on firearms as a muzzle device option to help focus muzzle blast downrange and also occasionally used for crude harmonic tuning since you can get some that are much heavier than a normal flash suppressor. You would have to do some thread adapting for airgun use, though.

Linear comps (they have both steel and aluminum in a range of sizes): https://www.kawvalleyprecision.com/KVP-Linear-Comps-s/100.htm
