FX Tensioned Slug Barrel Kit

Hey guys I am writing this to share the good news about my new FX .35 cal. Tensioned Slug Barrel Kit and related discoveries yesterday. First let me tell you that FX has hit an absolute homerun clear out of the park with this new slug barrel, and I sincerely hope everyone of you that wants to shoot slugs with your Impact gets one of these for yourself! It was designed to shoot slugs not pellets...and it shoots slugs the way we have all wished for and dreamed about for a long long time. It is true that the carbon fiber sleeve on this new tensioned slug barrel keeps it extremely stiff and rigid, even with my gigantic DonnyFl Emperor Suppressor on it!

Yesterday my .35 Impact MKII I call Elsa shot the Nielsen 93gr Hollow Point slugs at 970 ft/s which is 194 fpe…and the photos below will show the accuracy. Also she shot the FX Hybrid slugs at 1065 ft/s for 171 fpe, and then at 1000 ft/s for 152 fpe. The Hybrid slugs like this new slug barrel best at around 1000 ft/s & under for extreme accuracy. At 1065 ft/s the group at 50 yards measured 1 1/4" center to center...okay for hunting but for target shooting one hole fun shooting them at 1000 ft/s or less is best.

I refer to accuracy two ways - one I call "hunting accuracy" which usually means sacrificing some accuracy for lots of power; and the other I call "target accuracy" which usually means turning down the power in order to get one hole target accuracy. Once in a great while I am able to find a projectile that will allow me to shoot it with a ton of power and one hole accuracy... and that's what happened with the Nielsen 93gr slugs out of this new FX Tensioned Slug Barrel! :)

I am including a couple photos of the results I got with the Nielsen 93 grainers and the FX Hybrids yesterday, and I am including a link to a couple videos from my YouTube channel for you - one demonstrates how to use tape wraps on the barrel under the carbon fiber barrel sleeve, and the other is from when testing this new slug barrel yesterday. I give this new FX Tensioned Slug Barrel my highest recommendation, and especially want to share my excitement about how fantastic the Nielsen 93 grain slugs performed out of this new barrel. I ordered four more boxes of them today, and also one box of the 79 grainers to try out in this new slug barrel. Make sure you order the Nielsen slugs in size .358 for this new slug barrel and you will be glad you did!

All the best, Chuck

Can someone explain how the FX tension barrel works? I understand the concept of a tensioned barrel and have used an AEA hp that had a custom made shroud tensioner.
I'm considering an impact MK2 and if I get it I'd want to upgrade to the tensioned slug barrel. The part that has me confused is that in the FX liner replacement videos I've watched, it looks like the liner is locked in place by compression of the threaded inserts on either end of the shroud. The HUMA tensioner kit and the FX tensioned barrel kit both look like they apply tension between the muzzle insert and the midpoint of the shroud. I would not expect tension on the shroud to put tension on the liner unless the liner is now threaded or otherwise attached to the ends of the shroud. A threaded liner would explain why the tensioned barrel sells as a $400 assembly vs the individual components that you can mix and match for other FX barrel configurations.

Has anyone taken a look at the insides of the FX tensioned barrel to see how the pieces are put together?

If I’m not mistaken, ALL barrel tensioners for FX tension the barrel HOUSING and not the actual barrel LINER. The liner sits inside the barrel housing at a slight compression as always. Most have been using the CF tube over the liner that fits between the liner and housing vice using orings as the factory liners do.
Tensioning the barrel housing improves stiffness of the housing and lowers the harmonic amplitude of the barrel system.
So, in an Impact barrel tensioning means something a bit different than actual tensioning of the barrel in a gun like an EDGun R3 that has the barrel itself tensioned. Make sense?

One big improvement with the FX kit is that you get the barrel clamp that goes (IDK about the complete barrel system) in the front of the frame. That allows more tension without putting more strain on that single set screw at the breach. Personally I think you could do just as well with the new clamp and the standard shroud with an added spacer between the clamp and the backend of the shroud; as a couple of folks here have done.
Now to find a part number and stock status for the clamp alone.

The new m3 come with the clamp already installed. I dont know what date they started selling them with the clamp but my two m3 impacts both have clamps from the factory and I bought them about 3 or 4 months ago.

IF you have the carbon fiber Sleeve liner, then tension the Barrel sleeve. I'd think that would help as it does tension the whole setup.
I'm planning to tension a 700mm setup on my Dreamline. I'm drilling 2 extra holes on the sides of the Breech to help hold the barrel.

If it attaches just like the impact with a set screw then the brass TP will have a witness mark there. Drill a small step the size of the set screw to fit in. Maybe use a slightly longer set screw. Now there is no way it can move with the set screw in.

I picked up the .25 800mm tensioned slug barrel kit. Looks like 5 smooth-shouldered "grooves", hard to see with my borescope unless there is a shadow cast over the groove. My best guess at the twist rate is around 1:16. The development that's gone into the gen2 javelin slugs to match this caliber and specific barrel has me really curious to get my hands on some. Neat to hear about how the hollow point and profile work together to enable higher fps without transonic interference. Looking forward to a less biased HAM evaluation and hope I don't have to wait too long to do my own....
