FX Superlight STX Barrels?

Superlight STX 380mm! of course is about half the size of the 700mm -- superlight! jaja guess that is what it means. :p

"Both barrels introduce the all new FX Superlight STX barrels. The Superlight STX uses new engineering that holds the STX liner. The housed heavy long steel tube housing is gone! It is now fitted in a robust barrel attachment that results in a more rigid barrel."

ohh!! See what I said before, they remove the steel, probably with something lighter, steel was not needed...

It says in the description that the barrel attaches differently, no steel tube around the liner so it’s lighter and more rigid. I hadn’t heard of it either but it’s nice to see they’re making necessary changes! Stoti

Yes, just saw it... when I made the aluminum extension I mention it, that I was wonder why they use steel instead of something lighter in the barrel sleeve ... I thought it was because the treads ... but guess they read me! jajaja (just kidding) good thing.

I spoke to the dealer here in Australia about the availability of the compact range from FX. They said at this stage they will not be available in Australia because the barrels are no longer a 3 piece. Liner, steel tube, (non functioning shroud). The compact models are only 2 pieces. Liner and larger outer tube that also functions as the shroud. Which means we can't have them due to our silencer laws. They have been speaking to Johan about making them Aussie compatible (no porting inside?) So fingers crossed.

The superlite barrels have just the STX liner with baffles inside the shroud, the brass barrel inlet is the same as far as I know. Had the chance to see one at the IWA show this year, first it felt like the shroud was empty but they took it apart and it only had the liner inside. Very easy to use for hunting, cuts down the front weight substantially.

Interesting... did the rifle feel substantially lighter?

I was thinking about making something similar to fit a liner in a carbon tube and put the liner under tension rather than compression.

@mtnGhost, it was just the barrel when I saw it. I can imagine the benefits of a less front heavy rifle. I have a .22 stainless steel 60 cm long/18mm thick barrel for the Crown which is way heavier than the original .30 barrel and increases the front weight substantially so cutting the weight down will have the opposite effect.

@bucketboy be careful with putting tension on a barrel or other long metal parts. During changing temperatures the barrel has a tendency to deform ever so slightly which can lead to unwanted inconsistencies (POI shifts). My liner is barely tensioned in the steel tube for this reason and I rarely every see any temperature influences.

Very light and stiff. Crown Mk1 or Mk2. Mods to spacers needed to use CF stiffener over liner. Probably doesn't need it. We've used this Superlight Barrel on a Mk1 and a Mk2 Crown in .25 recently at 600mm and they are both lasers... They take the same liners as normal STX barrels. Crown only.
