FX Superior prep and cleaning intervals with slugs

Just would like to hear if you do any other prep on your Superior liners after the initial cleaning. Also how many shots guys are getting with clean and lubed slugs before a drop in accuracy tells you it’s time to clean. I know all guns are different but trends usually emerge if there’s enough data.

I don't shoot slugs or lube pellets because I think the lube doesn't do anything and slugs well thats another story. But to your question I clean after a tin of pellets or sometimes 2 tins. I initially polish the barrel first so my in-between cleaning is stretched out.

I have a superior x short 500mm that i shoot a mag (28) or two of slugs every once in a while and the last tin of H&N 23 gr (?) had a white coating like lithium on it. They shot great slug on top of slug to 48 yards, and when I switched back to my usual 18 gr pellets they shot better than they did before the lubed slugs! I think the coating on the H&Ns had something to do with it. I also had some uncoated 23 gr NSA that afterwards shot great as well. So the lube or coating does make a difference and it does stay in the bore for a while. Yes the slugs shot good before, still slug on slug (a flier here and there) but not as repeatable as the lubed slugs, they were more consistent.

After initial cleaning I have not cleaned it once yet nor do I intend to unless something strange happened, for reference I only shoot the cleaned and lubed NSA slugs straight out of box. 


edit: I have no idea some of liners’ shot count, most likely well over 1000 if not much more.

The reason I ask is until recently, I’ve only shot slugs from conventionally rifled barrels. My cleaning interval was about every 100 shots. Also wondering if it’s worth the effort to polish my liner the next time I have it out for cleaning. I polished my conventional barrels but they are a different animal.

I have around 400 shots alternating between Kings and Hybrids through my 600 mm Superior and holding very good accuracy. I clean with bronze brush on a rod, and lube projectiles lightly with food grade silicone.

Yes, polishing really extend the time at the bench shooting. I polish all barrels. Many are lapped before polishing. Use a bronze brush, even once, and the polish will be destroyed.

I use only 10 or 15 wt RC Shock oil which is silicone. This is for slugs only. I use FP-10 for pellets at times. Depending on the barrel.

I am shooting the superior also. The other day I had it shooting lights out with jsb 25.4’s, decided to shoot some slugs with Varying success. Went back to pellets and nothing was right. Called it quits and went home.

Decided to clean the barrel for the heck of it, I rarely clean pellet guns. I could not believe all the shiny flake that came out. Hopefully that will take care of the poor groups. Unfortunately I think I’m going to have to do some polishing or making sure my slugs and pellets are clean.
