Tuning FX Superior liners - uneven crown

If the bore is slightly off center this is how the crowning will look if done on a lathe. OMO

Gunsmith would use a dial indicator to center the bore of the barrel to run true to the lathe. And square.

this should result in perfect crown. 


I don’t expect fx to do this with their liners. And it shows

Agree with @dc8cappie. Yes, it appears the ID and OD are not exactly concentric... but it does appear that the crown where the pellet actually leaves the barrel is fine, and its a pretty good crown job.

Far from pretty good imo.

it’s either not cut square, or not crowned on center. No gunsmith worth their salt would settle for these results. 

One side of the projectile will leave the barrel earlier.

I understand that the crown will be fine. The bore may be out of centre that shows as if crown is bad.

Other issues like non straight liner etc. are with many other solid barrels also which shoot excellent .

That is not the worst of it .Take a pellet or slugs and push it through the barrel . It will get hard then fall a couple of times.Deforming your pellet or slug.

That is very true. I had about ten FX Superior liners. None of them had consistent bore. It is easy to feel - clean the bore and push a slug/pellet through it with a cleaning rod. Every single tight spot can be felt. Sometimes I scratch my had why they shoot that good with inconsistent bore and uneven crown. It's crazy.

I have had good luck with the older "slug liners" and original "Superior liners" the "superior heavys" have all sucked for pellets N Slugs. Impact mk2 700mm

I'm on the fence about running the huma vavle control spring I get great fps but I dunno

Crown and loading port are made prior to the rifling. So there must have been a tube defect. Such a tube should have never been rifled then.

Not a fan of how that crown looks. The outside of the liner looks very rough also. I know that doesn't affect shooting but looks bad. Interesting the bores aren't consistent.
