FX Superior Liner .30 500mm lead fouling

Hi,

I shot about 50 JSB 2.9g pellets and the liner was heavily fouled with lead. It was very hard to clean it. I was using PatchWorm but it did not collect all the lead particles. I had to push the slug through the bore to loosen the lead and after that I applied PatchWorm one more time.

I thought that FX liner bore is the smoothest thing on Earth but it does not shine as much as my LW bore. I simply place a cotton q-tip in the muzzle and use some light. The bore is not like a mirror.

One more thing is that when I push a pellet through the bore it does not go perfectly smooth. I can feel about 3 tighter areas in the bore and then there is a choke.

I would like to ask if every superior liner is like that or maybe I am 'lucky' and I got a lemon.

Thanks!

Someone on yt has some videos showing a bore scope view of diff st and stx barrels. They look ok at best, but the guy claims they are super accurate. From personal experience I have seen some crap looking barrels print tight groups, while relatively nice looking barrels put out mediocre groups. I personally wouldn’t worry about the way it looks unless the barrel isn’t shooting right. Have you tested it for groups?

I am going to test it soon at 50 meters and I will post the results. I was just a little shocked since the liners are advertised as super smooth because no tools ever touched the bore. I think it is not difficult to achieve mirror finish of the tube prior to the rifling process. I do not see any reason why FX do not do it. Maybe it is time consuming and they do it in the special barrels only. Hard to say. I hope FX can chime in.

The faster you shoot and the more slugs you shoot the faster your barrel will lead up. Once the barrel is worn in a bit the leading will not be so much of a problem. I first cleaned my .25 slug A barrel every 80-100 shots then I lapped with some polishing compound and it needed cleaned much less afterwards. Before I took my .25 barrel off the Impact I only had to clean once every 600+ rounds.

Lubing your slugs/pellets makes a huge difference in how often one needs to clean a barrel.
