FX Streamline & Beeman .177 Silver Jets

After sitting around last night doing pretty much nothing, I wondered how these classic pellets would shoot out of a modern pellet gun. I used to shoot these out of my FWB 124 Sport & they seemed very accurate back in the 80’s. I was curious to see if they live up to the "great memories" given to them nowadays. Keep in mind that perhaps accuracy standards back then weren’t as precise as we expect today. Also these results were with a single gun that just may not especially like them. I was shooting for groups and not bulls eyes as I was correcting a cant that I knew existed in my scope mounting. I used a dovetail mount bubble level and a plumb line also out at 25 yards to fix that problem. All shots were taken on a bench in my back field.

I figured that I have 2 boxes of Silver Jets in the blue/black/silver box & thought——“they’re just pellets try them out. I still have my FWB 124 and Powerline 880 in which to try them. I also remember Silver Jets shooting pretty good in my Powerline 881 back in the day.

So I fixed the slight cant and tried shooting the Air Arms 10.34 gr. pellets which is my squirrel pellet of choice so far. As I continued shooting, the wind which was blowing at only 3-5 MPH early on started picking up a bit and gusting at 10 MPH.

Basically, the Streamline didn’t like the Silver Jet pellets. They felt loose as I chambered each pellet. Too bad, but I’ve not yet found a modern pointed pellet that shoots as good as the domed JSB’s or Air Arms pellets out of my guns. I'm still looking for the perfect pellet but am pretty happy with the AA 10.34's

Below are the results of the shoot. These groups were all 10 to 13 shots as noted. The final group was shot with JSB 8.44's.

I know they're collectors items & worth a little money for pellets. They can sit on my shelf until I'm gone & my heir can dispose of them or I can test then to see if they were the "magic" pellet in my gun. If I found that they were to shoot a consistent 1/4" group at 25 yards, I would use them as my squirrel and rabbit pellet during small game season. That to me would be putting them to good use. I'd have enough in that one box for years of squirrel shooting. Alas, they are not. I guess I wasted a few pellets but can always try to pick up more on eBay if I see a partial box for a good price. I'll then replace the ones I used in the box, put them back on the shelf, and stick to shooting modern pellets. I think I've got it out of my system.
