FX Smooth twist barreled guns?

I have been looking at slightly older fx guns as a step into the high end gun market. However my research has led me to the fact that if I buy something like a royale, wildcat/impact mk1 or streamline I’m kind of stuck with a smooth twist barrel. While this first Gen barrel was a great concept it seems to have a major downfall in being an ammo limiting factor. I don’t currently shoot slugs but probably will in the future. Should this aspect be a certain deterrent from these guns? How much does it hurt their overall desirability? Would it keep you from buying one?
 
Depends on the price you pay ? you can always buy a different barrel and change it your self . I just bought a gun in .25 and changed the barrel to .177 easy . , and now i have both a.177 and .25 So figure the price for the gun and a new/used barrel

Oh I figured that would be really involved to switch. I was looking at a dreamline with 100 dollar UTG for 850 and then a royale 500 like new for 900. I guess a pretty significant savings especially the royale over a VP crown . The streamline as well I guess. A walnut dreamline is 1200 bucks. Tough decisions. Lol. Do you know if you can put the power plenum for the dreamline in a streamline?

If you are planning to shoot slugs, you are right it is a dead end. But for pellet use (jsb made mainly), they are still good barrels. They usually prefer soft lead pellets like thiose made by jsb. All my guns are tuned for jsb pellets, being FX or not, since they all shoot great with them. As long as they are available, I personally do not think that is a big issue. Jsb does make pellets branded air arms, FX, cometa, and maybe more. So doing some research, you fill find out it does not necessary need to say jsb on the box

"Stuck with a ST barrel"? It's the best thing FX has ever made. The Royale/Boss platform is simple, durable, accurate. The solid ST barrel maintains POI, and virtually never needs cleaning. I cleaned my Royale 400 about a year ago I think, just out of boredom. If you don't shoot slugs, buy a Royal or Streamline; it's one of the most reliable platforms out there.

I agree the “concept” is a wonderful thing that they did. The first Gen ST had the major shortcoming of not being a slug shooter. Slugs seem like they are only heading toward more and more popularity so yeah being stuck with a gun that won’t shoot them may be a big concern as it may not be worth trying to fit the older guns with the new liners.

@Keith2324, would you post some pics/evidence of OST barrels in ANY caliber shooting slugs well. From all my research & experience I've found that to not be the case. I'd love to see contrary evidence. My Royale 500 absolutely hates any slug I've tried. Simply not enough LENGTH of twist to stabilize a slug that's why your claim surprise s me.
