You may very well be correct, There's also the impact of crossing the sound barrier at around 1000 fps. A slug seems to make that transition better than a pellet, due to the shape. So many variables to consider!
I'm waiting for the X-slug liner to come out for my .25 cal. Gen. 1 Impact. My only concern is that the regulator in the Gen 1 can produce enough pressure for the slugs to fly right. One can only go to (maybe) 150 bar.
Hi Drumsnguns. I may have already mentioned this so sorry if I’m repeating myself. You can get a whole new trigger block for your early Impact. You would need to price one there in the States and it might not be worth it to you. I did mine and it was quite straight forward to swap them over. You will of course also have to buy the new regulator and housing. Dont quote me on this but I think you would manage it for around $300US. You’ll also then have the updates they made to improve the trigger. Michael
Hmmm interesting but confusing. The assembly doesn’t come with the regulator? odd. It’s tempting. I’ll probably get the slug line because I’m already committed. I’ll see what I can push with the stock gun. But I’ll keep this under advisement.
Why not just get the new regulator? Is that different also? So you would need to get the new trigger block and then the new regulator? Because why, does the new regulator will now set higher than 150 bar the gen one is limited to? How high? I have a gen1 Impact and am always trying to get more power to shoot slugs. I am currently having a Lothar Walthar barrel fitted to my Impact, maybe 30" long for extra velocity. We shall see when I have a few more answers. I also run it on helium. So basically with the stock smooth twist I can't shoot diablo's because it's too fast and I can't shoot slugs because it's not designed for slugs. Ergo, the need for the rifled non choked barrel. But back to the gen2 regulator, can you really set it higher than 150 bar, and where did you find this out? This is the first I have heard about it.
These liners are built around the Neilsen slugs (Which cost an Arm and a Leg) I'm going to try the H&N Piledrivers first. Hopefully they will work well with the slug liners.
This is very interesting topic to read and follows. Just I saw a listing on Utah airguns selling .22 cal slug impact x custom made on their website now. Me too is considering either getting an impact x .30 cal and wait for slug barrel kit with larger mag or texan ss .30 cal single shooter with wider pellets or slugs choices. I can't decide yet...
I finally did buy the Impact, used with a standard ST barrel, then upgraded to an X Barrel. For now, If I choose to shoot slugs, I think I'll just buy a gun for slugs. Now that I have the Impact and see the work it takes to setup for different barrels, I'm going to leave it set for pellets, and just buy a slug gun
Thanks, I decided to get the Texan SS .35 cal for my bench and Iong range. Order has been placed. Nielsen specialty ordered. Next up is ordering raptor stock.
isFun - good choice. You'll have a lot more fun with a dedicated slug gun than one gun to do many things. Thinking about a Texan myself, thinking, not buying just yet, but the SS is a good looking gun. Do give us a report how it shoots for you!
New smooth twist barrel has been reported to do okay with slugs if your going with a universal choice. Here is really one of the best (Well, the best) breakdown out there for the impact. Also q&a is indexed.
