FX Royale reassembled, results, groups, chrony

So I took my Royale apart last week and after reassembling there was a drop in velocity from about 875 down to about 835 for no apparent reason. I just put the Royale back together with new o-rings for the regulator, which is what I expected the problem to be since I found a knick in the regulator o-ring when I took it back apart again. The gun held air at 220 perfectly over night so I'm pretty sure there aren't any leaks. The velocity increased some, but not back to the original 875 that it was shooting when I got it. I've recorded a full chrony string.

Ernest had a good idea and suggested that maybe the air hole in the barrel wasn't lined up with the hole in the breech block and that maybe I just need to rotate it into position. I took the barrel out and was very careful to line the hole up exactly when I put it back in and the velocity is still lower.

I'm wondering if anyone has any other ideas about what exactly could be lowering the velocity since I haven't adjusted the hammer spring or the regulator at all. Maybe I should try changing the barrel probe o-ring? Any help greatly appreciated!!!

Thank you,
Cliff

Here are the chrony results, the first 65 or so shots seem super consistent and there there is a bit of a bell at the end? Does anyone know if this looks right? Maybe the regulator is still settling in on a new gun? This string was shot from about 230ish bar down to about 125ish.

These are the groups I was shooting when I was recording the chrony string at 52 yards, benched on sand bags. Very little wind, occasionally 1 to 2 MPH with the rare gust of 5 MPH? JSB kings. The last group is when the gun started falling off the regulator.

"FastEddie"Did you disassemble anything to do with the cocking lever that controls the pellet probe? When the probe seats the pellet there's a hole in the bottom that also has to line up with the transfer port. I had to adjust it on my wildcat. Just a thought. Good luck
Hi FastEddie, I didn't disassemble anything with the cocking lever or pellet probe. I've inspected the hole at the bottom of the pellet probe and it appears to be lining up with the hole in the transfer port perfectly. Thanks for the suggestion, I'm open to any I can get!

Yes, I had the exact same problem. The issue was not lining up the transfer Port of the barrel to the power wheel port, but it was actually below that. You have to remove the power wheel and line up the transfer port from the breach that leads into the power wheel. Mine looked like a half moon and was not letting enough air reach the power wheel.

In order to adjust it you will need a flashlight, some tiny tools, and you must loosen the small hex screw above & opposite of the power wheel. It will likely be loose already which has caused the misalignment.

Good luck

OK, so I took the power adjuster wheel apart and what do you know, I had a busted o-ring. While I was in there I still took the barrel apart so that I could see down into the transfer port hole to see if it was partially closed. It sure is hard to see down there but I'm pretty sure it was wide open. Thank you for the suggestion Michael!

Anyway, I put everything back together with a new o-ring on the power adjuster wheel and took it outside to shoot another string over the chrony. Here are the results.

The speed definitely came up some, almost back to where it was when I received it new. I'm not that concerned about the last few feet per second. My extreme spread seems to have opened up a bit but I guess that could just be statistical outliers. Also the lighting conditions weren't as good this time of day. I'm going to redo the whole experiment on Sunday when I get a chance and will report back. Does anyone with experience know if this looks like a typical Royale / Boss / Bobcat shot string?

Cliff, I'm getting 80 shots with a high of 888, a low of 873 and an average of 881, an ES of 15 and a SD of 3 on my Royale 500. So, not too dissimilar. I don't have that little bell curve at the end of mine though. That's a bit odd. But the shot to shot variation doesn't seem any more than the rest of the string, so it shouldn't affect accuracy.

Yes, that transfer Port is difficult to see. Shoot I thought for sure that would have been the solution.

Another thing to check would be the hammer spring. I found that if you over tighten the hammer spring it will decrease the velocity. Basically you continue tightening the hammer spring while you watch the velocity rise. Then as soon as the velocity starts to decrease back off the hammer spring a little bit.

Hey Michael,

I think I'm going to get into adjusting the hammer spring after I've sorted everything else out. I haven't touched the spring since receiving the gun from AOA so it's pretty much the only constant variable that I haven't messed with yet. I am interested to see the results from adjusting it and see if maybe I can get a little tighter groups from shooting different speeds.
