FX Royal 400 .22 cal

Hello,

The above rifle has been a reliable excellent shooter! I cleaned the barrel with patches. Now it’s s shooting 10 shots groups 4” or more at 35 yds! What happened?! Looking down the barrel appears to be normal. The air is at full capacity. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Breech barrel o-ring likely culprit.

OR clipping the shroud endcap.

Did you clean with pull through patches from the breech? Without removing the barrel? If so, I agree that the breech seal could be the problem. You would probably notice a difference in sound. A chrono run would disclose it also. The Royale is a relatively bullet proof rifle, I seldom clean mine. Something is way wrong to yield such an extreme loss of accuracy. The good news, big problems are usually easy to find.

Make sure the gun is empty, point in a safe direction and dry fire with a tissue loosely laid over the breech. See if it blows off.

Don't clean your Royals unless they loose accuracy. I have had a FX400 22 cal for a year and have shot thousands of pellets and shot a dove at 113 yards and one at 109 yards today. I have never cleaned it or my two FX 500's.

How much did you shoot it after the clean? Might just need to hit its leading in happy place.

Sorry to hear. This can be frustrating. My FX Royale 400 has never had the barrel cleaned. I figured that, with it’s spot-on accuracy, I wouldn’t be achieving anything positive. Wish you the best with getting it back on target.

Can't hurt to check the seal, bu frankly, I've shot rifles in various stages of breech seal damage, and while they were definitely affected, accuracy was not as poor as you describe. You can tell with the tissue test if it's leaking, no need replacing if it's not. I shot a couple of 25 yard groups with my Royale when over half of the breech seal was blown away. Velocity was way down, and erratic, but it actually shot pretty well!

I assume yours is the factory standard moderator, and I can't imagine why it would suddenly start clipping, unless dropped or subject to some other pressure. I had a similar experience once, and I made the embarrassing discovery that I had not tightened the grub screws holding the barrel! Did the same with wheel lug nuts once, it was not a good outcome.

I agree with the above. She gets loud if the breach oring gets damaged. The moderator on the 400 is mostly an open can. What did you clean the barrel with? Is it possible you lost part of a patch or a cleaning pellet that got left in the moderator? It happens.

As has been mentioned , clipping is likely a issue you inadvertently created. Hope you can get it figured out whatever it is. The 400 Royal is a great gun..
