To all of those FX owners, I have seen the light! After doing a power tune to get 85fpe out of JSB Exacts 44.75 and FX Hybrid slugs, I was ready to lure the starlings out of the home they have made by removing the cedar panel from my rental property. So I dropped 10 pounds of bird seed out in the back yard in a few mounds, and waited in the window to see when they would show up. 

I had two clips ready, one loaded with Hades and the other with FX Hybrids, just in case I saw a groundhog awaken from their slumber, but I was greeted by another pest I have been on the lookout for, and that was the large fox squirrel. My neighbor is partially disabled, so she doesn't drive but a few times a month, but now she doesn't drive at all, because the squirrels have eaten her car's electrical wires. So now it's time for some vengeance!

I dialed my power wheel to 6, then I popped in the FX Hybrids. I would have used full power, but even with a DonnyFL Ronin on the Maverick VP, is has quite the bark, probably due to the shorter barrel. I was aiming for a bodyshot so I could see how well the Hybrids would perform, and they didn't disappoint as I sent the round through right behind the shoulder.

After that, I was able to take out a starling with the Hades, and it also performed like a champ. Unfortunately, I was unable to get that on video, because they were on to me and time was of the essence.

I just ordered 700 more FX Hybrids and 750 JSB Exacts, so a very fun springtime awaits!

Thanks! I'm thinking about getting an ATN 5-20x for better video, as the 3-14x loses quality when zoomed in to the max.

Great shot and video, perfect placement! Surprised it even moved that far with a 30 cal hybrid but certain death it will be.

I was too! He was paws up just out of frame, not 5 foot from where she was shot.

What? .30 slug and that squirrel is not DRT?

Did you examine the exit wound? Any expansion?

I did not get up close on it, as a back injury has me in a pickle for now. I believe squirrels are kinda too slight for expansion from most rounds.

If the shot was an inch to the left, it would be a different story altogether, as that would have broken the shoulder. Two inches it would have went through the sternum and that would be a DRT.

I took a Texas heart shot and this broadside shot with a .357 Polymag, and it produces two DRT shots.

So .35 is needed to be sure that DRT will happen on a squirrel with a body shot?

Absolutely not! I only used this gun because it was the only gun that I had at the time.

I am of the belief that using an airgun with enough power to expand the ammo and not exit, is the perfect airgun on game, with the knowledge that the round must also penetrate deep enough for the vitals.

I only showed this shot because the shot placement is directly on the heart/lung vitals. 

The best shots for DRT on any game are a shot that destroys or damages the nervous system. The second best shot is one that damages the circulatory/respiratory system, and if you can damage the skeletal system while doing so, you've pulled a hat trick.

Shooting into the shoulder not only gets the heart lung shot you want, but that also sends a shock to the spine as they are connected. You also get the opportunity for better ammo expansion as it hits harder body parts.

Obviously you don't need this much energy for a squirrel, but you do need more energy than a headshot, and expanding rounds are very helpful if you plan on taking your game with bodyshots. I take bodyshots, as the body is a larger target than the brain.
