FX Maverick issue?

So I just got my 2nd .25 cal Maverick on Thursday. Both sniper versions with the regs both set about the same. My first gun has been impressive for the last 2 months. This new one though has some strange issues I can't figure out. While shooting with the chrono....the new one's max power is on power wheel setting 5...power 7 seems to be the lowest power? 5-1 seem to be fairly consistent and then 7 and 6 are just randomly lower every time. I took the power adjustment wheel off to max the hammer and have a look; it seems regardless of which way the power wheel was installed....with the different varying depths of the slots for the spring...7 should always be my max velocity/power like on my first gun? Any suggestions? The only difference between this gun and my other one is this one came with a dual-transfer port installed?

Well, generally when velocity goes down when you increase the hammer spring tension, then you have gone too far with the hammer spring.

Since the new gun is different with the dual transfer port, it should be flowing more air, or flowing air more easily from the valve to the pellet/barrel. As such it is not totally surprising that it functions better (as compared to the original gun) with a lower hammer spring setting.

I am assuming that your first gun is not a .25 cal like your second gun? So we can't directly compare muzzle velocities of Gun #1 @ HS=7 vs Gun #2 @ HS=5.

But what is your muzzle velocity with Gun #2 @ HS =5? Is it near the FX specification of 895 fps with a 25.4 gr pellet?

Well all that had me baffled, but I am inpatient so went out and tried the hammer spring. Backed it down half turn every two shots to test on PW7 and you were correct. I now have the hammer spring adjust to maxed down and it is shooting at 990 on PW7 and about 910 on PW1. If I am thinking correctly, if I were to drop the pressure to the second reg with it set up this way right now, it will most likely increase velocity as the valve will open slightly easier as pressure lessens. Currently running at roughly 150 on first and 120 on 2nd.

FX Maverick Compact: Magazine is stuck in mag slot and cocking lever will not return to normal position. Is there a simple fix for this issue?

James,

I would GUESS the two screws that are part of the cocking lever linkage and attach to the stainless bar on the left side are now slightly loose. Loosen those screws a turn or two, grab the stainless bar with your fingers, and slide the bar rearward. This should pull your pellet probe out of the magazine enough that you can extract the mag. Then remove the cheek piece, clean the stainless bar where the two screws clamp, and slide the stainless bar until you can see the pellet probe screw in the hole which lies under the cheek piece. Once you feel it is slightly forward of center in the hole, apply the screws back into linkage with blue loctite, tighten until snug, and it will probably not be a problem again.

My 3 cents worth, not a technician, just a Mav owner, proceed at your own risk.

The two screws on the left side I am talking about. I could be dead wrong but had a similar thing with mine after shooting it awhile.

Not sure what that one is. I have found a few spots that would be best to loctite in, but highly recommend purple loctite due to size of screws. The grub screws on the block pictured above, the screw that holds the probe in place, and the power wheel screw are the top 3. I also had the small roll pin work itself out of the cocking arm mechanism. Easy enough to push back in and put a dab of clear fingetnail polish on each side to prevent that from happening.

I also had that roll pin (bushing) pop out while tuning. Had the Maverick putting them all inside of a 1/2" square @ 60 when it happened when the gun wouldn't fully cock. Thought I'd adjusted too far and started back dialing before seeing that roll pin riding the guide. I have not been able to get it back to that accuracy point. It shoots good, I just know there is more in that bottle.
