Surprised they came out with the impact tuner first actually, it would be more helpful with the crown first IMHO but with the shift to superlite barrel system makes the R&D a lot more difficult or impossible. This is just my opinion and my opinion only: the tuner is NOT the magic bullet that will get you the sub MOA group from a shot gun pattern at 100 yards. Just like in the world of PB BR world the tuner is to get you the last 1% increase from 1/2 MOA to 1/4 MOA. If the gun can’t shoot 1/2 MOA to start with then the tuner is unlikely to get you from over MOA to 1/4 MOA, it might but chances are low. In PB world the tuner is primarily used by crazy BR folks with 40-50lb rigs looking for that sub 1/4 MOA at 100, still haven’t seen any PRS folks use the tuner.
With the FX system being far more complex with many more parts the variables are exponentially higher compared to a tradition barrel system. So to get the benefit out of the tuner all other options must be exhausted and the gun can consistently shoot sub MOA before adding another variable to the already complex equation.
Honestly the biggest problem I had was at high power the impact is very hold sensitive and no amount of tuner can tune that out. I would love to see a rear chassis stiffening mod more than anything else. The butt stock section is connected to the action via a single piece of flat aluminum which has very little structural strength, this why I think the impact is so hold sensitive but adding a ST bag rider helps a little but it isn’t designed to be structurally strong.
long story short, the tuner is another shinny new toy but it’s for people who are seeking that last 1% so I wouldn’t expect magic. But I could be wrong also.
