FX Impact slug probe with pellets

It makes sense that the original probe would consistently seat pellets more evenly at the same depth. But maybe another depth would be better accuracy wise? I found that you can set pellet depth quite accurately when using the pin probe, if you load single shot, but the magazine will often interfere when it is used. I would imagine this can make a slight difference in accuracy but, as my gun was already a laser at 100 yards, I never attempted to find out because I did not want to load single shot. So, I don't use the the pin probe and sold mine as single shot is not what I intended to do.

If the given pin probe is for slugs and set up for them, the deeper base of a pellet will simply be too deep leaving the probe pin too short. F for most pellets leaving the pellets skirt partially or fully blocking the transfer port. This collapse's the skirt and lead to very bad accuracy. If adjustable, lengthen the probe long enough to seat the pellets skirt beyond the port. 😉

I plan on using the pin probe for pellets simply to test efficiency. I have an older Impact (Gen 1) so the internal air flows are not as efficient as they could be. So replacing the stock probe with a pin probe and replacing the transfer port with Ernest's dual transfer port. with no modifications, was shooting 34 grain JSB's at 830 with regulator almost maxed out at 145 bar. Added power plenum and reduced by 20 bar or so to achieve the same results. Now, trying the new transfer port and pin probe to see if I can reduce to 100-ish bar.

Then I'll test accuracy of the setup. We'll see what happens.

Use the pellet probe for pellets and use the slug pin probe for slugs. If you use the slug pin probe for pellets, you will get flyers when the pellet falls into the transfer port and chambers inconsistently.

If you want to use the slug pin probe for pellets, you will need to install a dual high flow transfer port with a center guide bar. The center guide bar will prevent the pellet from falling into it and helps chamber the ammo consistently.

Speaking from experience...

If you are shooting pellets, why do you feel it necessary to use a pin probe? You don't want to push pellets much beyond 920 fps, so the standard probe should accomplish that nicely. Or maybe I'm missing something.

In my case, I installed the pin probe to use with slugs. When I reduced power to shoot pellets again, I just didn't change it. A thousand rounds later I still shoot both and luckily so far have not experienced an increase in flyers. I do have the pin probe extended to seat as deeply as possible without affecting mag loading. I have barrels with dual and single loading ports. I inserted a felt cleaning pellet and then seated a pellet behind it with the pin probe. I then removed the barrel to be sure the pellet was being seated deep enough not to obstruct the transfer port. So far so good for me. Clearly, others have had different experiences which are equally valid. Your mileage may vary. If you are interested, try it in your gun and let us know how it turns out. As others have said if you will be shooting pellets only there may be little to gain.

Good point knife... I didn't think about mentioning it..

Well if I'm correct I'm ready to go because I got a Dual transfer port now I need to buy a slug probe kit.

And I can shot s a pellets and slug's

With magazine correct???

Thank You

If you want to shoot slugs from the magazine, standard side shot I assume, you WILL want to order a slug insert for it from Orion the Iguana Hunter:

Watch the video in the link on how to install-it's easy. Without that insert, the slugs will tip in the magazine and it will jam. I installed it, and the slugs work perfectly from the magazine.

I was having accuracy issues with my mk2 impact compact with slug probe when shooting pellets, and so with advice from guys on here (different thread) I texted the depth the probe was setting the pellets. The were not making it past the transfer port. I’m confident this was my problem. I ended up buying a slug/pellet probe from huma (not the pin probe) and installing that, and my accuracy problems went away.

btw, I adjusted the pin probe enough to seat the pellets, and then the mag couldn’t be inserted without contacting the probe.
