$2,000 for a gun that should have never passed QC. I wouldn't waste my time tinkering with it. Just bring it back and change it out for one without the problem and let FX figure out the issue. That's what warranty service is for.

This is going to sound crazy but the thought never crossed my mind while I was there. Later on this evening it did. I must be going tropo."Tactical"They did not give you a new mag?![]()
The hole in the mag. is supposed to be in the middle of the slot. With this one it isn't."travels4fun"I was able to make it over to AOA with afternoon. They modified the magazine by filing down some of the metal casing around the opening in the casing where the pellet exits the magazine (see pic). I had hoped to have time to see if that fixed the issue but ran out of time. I should have more time tomorrow and will provide an update in the evening.
I experienced the same problem with one of my guns. Just a little chip or scratch and the groups opened up big time, very noticeable spiraling. On my gun the transfer port hole had a burr and it was scratching the pellets, once I fixed that accuracy went back to normal."KenSkylight"I would be surprised if the little damaged skirt is the cause of the wobble.
The head must not be damaged!
Here is a video that shows this.
I think the barrel is the cause, perhaps the pellet scrape on the Shroud exit hole?
I had the barrel off and did a dry run of pellets both manually loaded and though the magazine. Only the pellets from the magazine showed skirt damage. I had already pulled the probe out to inspect it and it was fine, Same with the barrel's brass transfer port which was fine."kris"how do you know that it is the mag and not the gun or the pellet probe loading mechanism?
that damage/deformation on the pellet skirt - will fully explain the spiralling.
I had similar with a hw100 but that is quite different construction/mechanism on that one it was not the magazine.
it is possible that you are trying to work around the problem, by modifying a good magazine. do you want that?
Kenskylight - I mostly agree with you that head damage is much more likely to cause problems downrange than skirt damage both from the video and Manabe's experiment a while back. (Technically, my way of thinking tells me that any deviation from absolute perfection will have an effect downrange. But, I digress.) Take a look again at the pictures at the beginning of the post. I think I'm seeing a dent on the heads of those scraped up pellets (it's lined up with the scrapes). I can imagine a possible scenario... As the probe pushes the pellet forward and it is (or WAS) getting damaged at the skirt, it canted the pellet sideways and dented (but, didn't scrape) the head adding to the situation. Do you see it too? And, if so, what do you think?"KenSkylight"I would be surprised if the little damaged skirt is the cause of the wobble.

Yes, they may be right."Tominco"

Guys, while the solution isn't perfect in every way... I think AoA did a decent quick job with the problems they were presented with. They have no Impact mags (currently) to replace that one with, and they have a customer having issues with the product. So, they had to come up with a solution that could work. They did what they could to get the shooter shooting again and enjoying their rifle. Ultimately, isn't that what we all want to do, enjoy our rifles?
I'm sure FX is seeing this, and if adjustments need to be made they'll be looking into it. I could speculate a few things in the manufacturing process that may have caused this to happen but, I have no expertise in that arena and it would only be that... speculation.
Scott, I really hope this has solved the issue for you! If it has, then I guess the next thing you'll have to decide is whether you want to try for a new mag or keep this one that's working. Maybe a little polishing where the filing was done would make it a bit smoother and look a little nicer? I bet opening that hole up a little also makes loading the first pellet a little easier too. Heck, that's a bonus in my book!
Let's see some shooting, ace! LOL!
