Tuning FX Impact New Product Issues (Harmonic Tuner / 500mm Carbon Fiber Liner Sleeve

Guys -- I just wanted to post some things I have experienced in the past few weeks.

My 500mm Carbon Fiber Liner Sleeve I ordered from Utah Airguns does not fit inside the barrel housing at all. I have noticed many others complaining of this as well. Popular remedies are putting it in a lathe and sanding it to fit, or a drill.. If you do this WEAR A RESPIRATOR because you do not want to be breathing carbon fiber dust/particulates... Real nasty stuff. I don't think we should be expected to do that much work on a new product that should just fit.. my .02 cents..

NOW FOR THE HARMONIC TUNER

I ordered a 500mm FX Harmonic Tuning Shroud from Huma-Air and got it in last wednesday.. The front barrel weight with the tickmarks in it is having problems with the coating peeling off, it appears to be like plasti-dip or something similar... I am very aggravated about that. Anyone else having similar issues with the harmonic tuner??

I'll try to post some pics later on this evening.

Fitment of the CF sleeve to the barrel housing should be tight. The tighter it is the better it will werq. It is the same with the liner to sleeve fit.

Mine had to be sanded but only lightly. Wore a dust mask for that. After I cleaned my barrel housing I looked through it and was amazed at how uneven the surface was so I could see why the sanding was needed.

FX seems to be having an awful time with the finishes on the barrel tuners. I got two that were all scratched up. They looked well used and sent them both back and got a refund. Then I noticed they were putting a finish on them. The finish they are putting on them is not that great either. It is probly posed to hide the ugliness underneath.

I ordered another from a different vendor hoping to get into a different batch of tuners so they will not have the same defect. But looks like I will just get one with the defects covered by some sort of spray on ugly hider finish. Always some first world problem I have going on. It's such a rough life here. ;^)

I appreciate your input brother. I knew I wasn't the only one. The carbon fiber sleeve that slips over the liner definitely should be tight, but not this tight. I think it's only the 500mm variant that is having problems. My 600mm sleeve had no problems at all.

I might try stripping the coating off of the barrel tuner and just masking the CF shroud and plasti dipping it in black :) I'll let you know how it goes.

Don’t mean to steel your thread but are you running on an impact or Maverick. I have a Maverick and was thinking about getting one. I can’t remember which shroud will fit a Maverick. I’m almost positive I can put one on since the top rail is the same as an impact.

Also my 700mm carbon liner fit perfectly in my Maverick. It’s snug in the housing to where I would need to unscrew the silver spacer by the transfer port to push it out the front. And the liner I have to uses pliers with a piece of leather to get it out. But the liner stays in the housing.

Running on the Impact.. I'm not sure how the harmonic tuner shroud would work on the maverick.

............WEAR A RESPIRATOR because you do not want to be breathing carbon fiber dust/particulates... .........

Yes cautions and common sense to be taken, but no necessary to the extremes, no need to scare people off.

What you think how we were cutting CF archery arrows in the past 20 or so years (a dozen prized as an average airgun)?

Use common sense, if you cannot see it from far use reading glasses for that distance, but an extended arm length is good enough, if you have a shop vac on opposite side that will for sure collect all the dust.

For this same reason could not educate people and finally Unions don't want to work on CF in USA and outsourcing to Asia for two decades, and more....and what you think how they do it over there? but here comes a joke, do you live longer?

I've ordered 3 Carbon Fiber Liner Sleeve and they all fit without issue. I also got my tuners in today and no issue with them either.

Are any of your liner sleeves in the 500mm variant? Ordered from Utah Airguns? The 500mm are the only ones reported to have issues... my 600mm's fit without issue..

Yes, I got a 500mm in .22 that was ordered from Utah airguns along with some 700mm.

I ordered cf sleeves from 910 airgun repair 500 mm tubes and they both fit perfectly the one I got from ebay fits the outer tube well but is like a 1/16 of a inch all the way around to loose for the liner it was ordered for a 22 500 mm so I was going to try it in my 30 cal 500 mm and see if it fits it better Ive ordered from 910 a 22 cal 500mm fits good and a 25 cal 500 mm which also fits good and was hoping the larger one would fit the 30 cal halfway decent

I got a FX carbon sleeve and it is tight and after thinking about I won’t be buying FX branded version again and stick with Ernest’s sleeves. Having it machined so tight relies solely on the precision of the machine and operator, if only slightly off it would put uneven force on the barrel. I rather get Ernest’s sleeves that are a little loose or won’t put any force on the barrel/liner and let epoxy cure slowly between the sleeve and liner to form a solid barrel without any stress or force. IMHO the FX sleeves are over engineered with too tight of tolerance or too small of margin for error. Granted my liner with FX liner shot fine but I will not buy again.
