Fx Impact MKii power plenum slug suggestions?

Hey all, I am new to the forum. Been a shooter all my life, powder burners mostly. Just got into PCP's this year and bought an FX impact mkii powerplenum in .22, 700mm, it has the huma dual transfer port installed and i am waiting for my backorder slug power kit to ship. Just purchased a slug liner A (cant find superior heavy liner in stock anywhere). Looking for suggestions on slugs. the purpose of this rifle to me is to be extremely versatile. I would like to get a high shot count but also 100+ yard (mostly target) performance. I am planning on shooting the 27.5 NSA slugs for this task. What slugs are you all using? I am thinking maybe 23 grain slugs would probably be the better choice. What velocities are ideal for the slugs?

Thank you all in advance.

Haven't tried them in my .22 700 slug A yet, but the JSB KO 25.39 in .217 shoot a .125-.250 hole @25yds @ 930 and 951 out of the 700 SuperiorSTX. I am tuning for 1 hole @ 25yds for sub 1/2 MOA @ 100+

Also in .217 I have 23gr and 27gr (.218 on the way in 27gr) NSA's along with FX Hybrids to test this week out of the SSTX and I will also test them out of the Slug A. Need to grab some new H&N's as well.

Keep in mind sizing and weight will also play a big part in your accuracy tune.

So I got my .217, 27.5 NSA's and shot them through my original liner which is a 700mm superior (standard not heavy) and used my max tune for JSB 18.13's which spits them out at just over 1000fps and does so very accurately... I was not expecting my impact to shoot the 27.5's this well without changing any of the settings. The following are the groups produced while shooting through the chrono, one 12 shot group above the "5" and a 16 shot group near the bull. This is 30 yards. The squares for reference are 1"x1".

Here is how it performs on the same setting with the JSB 18.13's the i chronographed 5 of them before shooting the nsa's. This target is at 25 yards, a different day, i do not recall how many shots were in each group but i know it was a minimum of 5. I cannot believe how accurate these FX's are.

Thanks to everyone for the information you provided. I think i am going to order up some 23 grain NSA's and see how those shoot. I would love to be able to shoot slugs and 18.13's in the same gun without having to change any settings. Early testing looks like that might actually happen.

You won't be needing a power plenum if your gun likes the 23gr NSAs. Actually you don't need it anyway IMHO. I have one and lately havent considered installing and just worry about my perfect accuracy as-is going to CRAP. I shoot 200 yards!!! No power plenum!!!

Yo,

are you using the .217 or .218, 23gr nsa slugs ?

bts1991,

YO and gendoc do have a point. PP and slug size are 2 of the many variables to contend with.

Just find your chosen barrel, Slug/pellet size and weight, hammer spring adjustment along with the ideal Reg and FPS adjustment and you are golden.

Simple, Right? No. Magic formulas don't exist, general tuning models do. Test.

Many qualified minds here have shared incredible amounts of data on this subject for you to consume 😉

Slug size along with weight, FPS and Reg. settings will make a difference in accuracy at any distance. Tuning is the key.

New Superior liners ,regular or heavy, could be an option as well, depending on your pellet weight ideal. Just a thought...

You can do it.

From the looks of your groups at that distance (25yd) I think there is major room for improvement. Just sayin' . 25yds should be 1 hole to have accuracy of sub-MOA at 100+.

What are your expectations for 25-50-75-100-100+?

Shooting from 18.39 pellets to 23 slugs to 27.5 slugs with a twist of the "Power adjuster" and think you are going to get "sub-MOA" or better would be a dream for most. Can happen, but, will require work and lead.

You can do it.

Pellets in JSB 18.39 and 25.95RD for up to 100+yd are second to none no question and it's documented, solid, effective and accurate.

Overall, for you, slugs might not be your best friend 😕 You tell us what is working for you.😃

Have fun, shoot straight and be safe,

Patrick
