Hi,
I wanted to know how you guys tuned your impact and what kind of results you were getting.
I'm primarily shooting the 50 grains JSB's out of mine but I have a hard time getting some power out of it. Mind you, it's ok for the pellets but I've just bought a slug liner and I will definitely need more power but I will come to that later...
So far, I've tried to get the best out of my pellets but I'm kind of stuck: I received the gun with the regulator set just under 150 bars. I maxed out the spring tension and got to around 870 feet/s with the 50 grains. The gun was very consistent except for the first couple of shots which were always way too slow (Though, I didn't notice any reg creeping on this gun)! I decided to try to increase the regulator a little bit but the speed decreased (could not add more spring tension, I was already maxed out). So, I tried to reduce the reg pressure and went down to just about 135 bars with approximately the same speed of pellet (866-870). Interestingly enough, the problem of low speed for the first couple of shots nearly disappeared, which is great.
Now, I can live with a pellet speed of about 870 feet per second but when it comes to slugs, that's a totally different story. By the way, I wanted to try rather light slugs, so that I wouldn't have to fight too much with my gun to get enough speed and I ordered some NSA .30 cal 47 grains slugs. First thing: don't buy them if you want to shoot them from the mag, they don't stay in place, they turn around completely, forcing you to remove the mag and replace the slugs in their slots. I got almost the same speed with the slugs (just a few feet per second slower: 860) but the accuracy was not there. I guess they must fly much faster (100 more would be nice I suppose). So, I cranked up the reg 5 bars at a time and tried, but the more I increased the reg, the slower the slugs (I went up to a good 170 bars). It seems I would need to hit the valve with more power but before making changes (heavier hammer/plenum....), I wanted to check if this was a "normal" power limit for an impact MKII. I expected to be able to get more power out of it.
To complete my story, I did'nt want to shoot all my slugs at those ridiculous speeds and decided to keep them for later (when I have solved my power problems). So, I thought it would be a good idea to try to shoot the pellets from the slug liner. First, they fly at the same speed and they hit much lower but I found them to be quite accurate which I didn't expect at all! My 2 targets are respectively at 67 and 100 yards and here are a few pictures of the targets I shot tonight with JSB 50 grains from a slug liner. Cold weather (freezing) and getting dark...
67 yards targets: 5 shots in the first target. In the second one, I pulled my first shot (bottom left), so I shot 5 after that.
And here are my results at 100 yards: I post them all, not only the best one...
First target at 100 yards: first 4 shots on the right, then one low (don't know why, probably my hold) and then 5 shots dead center!
5-6 shots per target:
