fx impact m3 FAC tuning to sub 12:It is possible to match them in accuracy/consi

Greetings to all Forum participants and a special thanks to all who contributed to resolving this issue.

I'm interested in practicing Field Target (so I would have to stick with a sub 12 airgun), but... (there's always one but

).. I want that my airgun to have the versatility and to be able to set it to higher speeds for when I'm on private property, with friends, in private shooting games where we use 24 joules or more (>18 FootPounds).

My questions are:

  1. Can I configure an FX Impact M3 FAC for SUB 12 and match the characteristics of an original FX Impact M3 SUB 12 while maintaining, or even improving, its accuracy and consistency of shooting speeds?
  2. Or, on a mechanical level, are the internal components different, making it impossible for an FX Impact M3 FAC to be configured to SUB 12 ft-lb and match the same characteristics of an FX Impact SUB 12 ft-lb original from the factory?

Once again, I thank everyone who wants to contribute to resolving this issue.

Can it be done? Yes! Just finished an m3 in 177 over the weekend, my set up is 850 on 1 with 8 grn jsb and 940 FPS on 14 with 13 grn KO slug. That is with a 600 mm liner, the 500 mm would be even easier. The really cool part about the impact is you are in total control of the valve, you can always simply close the valve sooner! Just don’t try any of this with the misconception that you run these things with high or max hammer settings!
hope that helps!👍🏻

Thanks for your response.

But did you detect any loss of accuracy and consistency in speed in your set up 850 on 1 with 8 grn jsb?
And on your M3 .177, keeping the same pellet (for example 10grn or other grn), do you have more precision at what speeds?

Once again I would like to thank you for your previous reply.

So I have not put her through the accuracy paces yet but the SD on all was 4 or less, I am ok with that as this is strictly a hunter. Also,I need to change what my tape said on the gun, 890 8 grn on #1 900 FPS on #4 10grn and 940 on 14 with the 13ko, my first reg is 200 (that’s how I run all of them) and second @ around 105 ish. I can say I am leery about the large liner orings on .177? That is a lot of rubber on a small dia liner? Might be a great candidate for a CF sleeve? My crown in .177 shoots lights out, but the liner system in those has the hard plastic containment rings that are far less squishy? So to speak. We will see? Keep in mind that I am currently over 12 fpe, but a small turn in on the valve adj (very sensitive in .177) and I could go down to 10 fpe simply, hope that helps?

I have the CF sleeve. Ken hicks at SPAW has them in stock. He installed and tested for me. I have never shot with the O-rings, but upon dismantling the barrel/shroud/liner/sleeve I can see that the sleeve is a nice fit. The liner slips right in with no play.

Jayson, You must be good at the tuning. I cannot get a consistent SD of <5. I can maybe get 5 shots that way, but if I shoot 20, the ES starts to approach 15 -20 FPS. I dont sort or lube my pellets. Contrary to what I have read, I find that my barrel picks up a lot of grime and looses accuracy after 250-500 shots. I'm shooting only JSB/Air Arms and FX pellets.

If it shoots great? Who cares right! But yeah when setting up, I start making changes if ES breaks 10, if I notice? But especially Impacts, they can stay under 3 SD or real close to it very consistently,15 shot sample size and a good batch of pellets, all the jsb makes will usually do that with the very rare “what the hell?”
