FX impact M3 .177 - questions

  • Seen lots of reviews on the >.22 versions. Anyone shoot a .177?
  • Anyone else hear that FX has been working on an improved .177 barrel for the Impact?
  • Having issues finding one to buy in the US, anyone aware of a source?
  • ANY feedback appreciated (pellets, accessories, etc)
  • Most important - I shoot in my suburban patio. I can easily shoot a .177 Redwolf w/ DonnyFL or .177 Marauder without attracting attention. However, shooting a Daystate Huntsman .177 w/ DonnyFl is a bit too much noise for the neighborhood. Anyone have any comparisons of a .177 impact? I probably wont take it above 20 foot lbs, maybe even as low as 12-14.

THANKS!

First thing I'd say is that turning a rifle that is capable of 150+ FPE down to 12 FPE is kind of a big ask. If you like the look, I get it, I really do. I'm betting you're not going to get a whole lot of responses in the .177 category because most folk buy an Impact to fling big, heavy slugs a long way. Even buying a Maverick might be considered a lot of gun for what you're wanting.

I can answer about FX supply though...there's not many around. I suggest doing what I did; go to their US distributor list and start working the phone/web. Pellets are in short supply for .22 and up, .177 are better. FX likes JSB the best, or their own brand (which are made by JSB). For noise level, with the FX moderator I think it will be virtually silent. I shoot a .22 Maverick at 37 FPE with the FX moderator and the sound of the impact is much louder than the gun itself. At 20 FPE, a .177 will be pretty much undetectable I think.

Good luck with the search, hope I gave you some useful info.

Sleebus.jones. I appreciate your thoughts on "overkill" with an impact for a backyard plinker. I'm GUILTY with my RedWolf and even Huntsman HP. I love the hobby and technology. I figure I have a pretty good electronic gun and am anxious to try out a FX M3.

I appreciate your feedback on the level of noise. I know this is subjective but I'm trying to quantitate as much as possible. Dont want a >$2K air rifle I cant shoot at home. Neighbors make a stink with the Huntsman, but I can shoot 200 pellets with the Redwolf in an afternoon and get no complaints!

Thanks again.

I am working on one now, I don’t know about the liner yet? I will take it apart and measure it up, btw, I have worked a crown and an impact in 177, there is no high degree of difficulty getting them down in power, and with 3-400 shot count and a 38 round mag? Who the hell wouldn’t want one👍🏻
I can say the 500mm stx is loving the 13 grn KO, sub 1/2 moa @ 50, I’m talking stupid accurate! The starlings this fall are going to reap it! The barrel I’m working on now in the m3 is a 600mm so I’m guessing it’s one of the new ones. If need be, you could remove the stock hammer weight for way low, but 18 fpe was easy, Go for it!

Your whole post was awesome. Great to have the additional info! Impacts are pretty sweet IMO.
