FX Impact for a newbie?

Hey guys

while I’ve been shooting a while my bro wants to get into Airguns and he’s completely new to Airguns. Would an FX Impact be too sophisticated to start with or an ideal gun because it can be set up as standard and then if you really progress and get into Airguns you don’t need to buy a new air rifle to get into all the capabilities?
Or is it a gun that needs constant adjustments ?

If he doesn't take an interest or doesn't care to fiddle with settings, it might not be for him. I think he would have to watch a few FX Impact Master Class series to understand its true potential. The Impact is truly the most adjustable platform but for him to take full advantage of its true potential, he has to know the platform. Sure you can have it set up from the dealer and shoot it straight out of the box but what happens when he wants to change caliber, pellet weight, appropriate speed or shoot slugs? If he blows an o-ring, which will eventually happen, he needs to understand that he'll have to pack it up and send it off for repair or learn how to do it himself.

I'm going to go against the grain and say not a good first gun for a beginner. It could end up leaving a $2000 bad taste in his mouth. As said, if someone doesn't have an understanding on how everything works together, things can get out of wack in a hurry. Face it, were men and like to push buttons , twist knobs...make more power. JMO

Yeh that’s my kinda gut feeling too

As an alternative I was thinking FX Wildcat MK2

There ya go. Learning how to balance reg pressure and hammer strike and the effects it has on velocity will keep him busy tinkering for a while. Don't forget to set him up with a chronograph so he can see what twisting this and turning that is doing to his gun.

I have a impact and love it. But if you think it's too much for a first pcp look at the fx dream line. I have one of these as well. It's a lot simpler and shoots very well.

100% agree, if you love to tinker then get the impact, if not then dreamline!

im a newbie too but I love to tinker and enjoying tweaking all the settings on my impact. Be warned, it can be frustrating but the impact is just as much about the journey of discovery if not more so than the actual shooting part. Thanks to the lockdown I’m spending hours and hundreds of pellets just so I can go for that perfect headshot with absolute confidence.

I've had a similar experience lately that might help you decide. I'll try to keep this short, after many years of not shooting an air rifle I decided to start shooting an old Daisy .22 pump-um-up (don't even know how I got it) and quickly started wanting something better. I mentioned that I was looking into buying a new air rifle to my wife and bro-in-law and out of the blue they bought me the most extravagant birthday gift I have ever received, a FX Crown Continuum. I know you're looking at a Impact for your brother but a Impact and Crown have similar adjustability so I thought my experience might help you with your decision.

The Crown is way too much rifle for me considering what I was using however I am really enjoying its out of the box accuracy (I'll bet the Impact is crazy accurate too) and the best part is learning the rifle, watching some videos and actually growing to understand how to best tune the rifle for my use. Only you know if your brother has the patience and desire to maximize the Impact however I think if he shoots with the stock settings he will be thrilled. I say go for it!

No,buy it, just clean the barrel and fire.

No need to adjust some thing, standard setup is fine!

I buy a .25 three month ago and was wonderfull out of the box. If money is not a problem, buy it, you never regret.
