FX Impact barrel bands-- Do they help, hurt, or no difference

Yes, a barrel band will always do one of those three things. ;^)

Depending on where it is on the barrel, the tune of the gun and what projectile you are shooting.

I don't know why anyone would use a barrel band when it is so easy to tension the barrel on an Impact.

All you need is a 14mm bushing between the shroud and the block of the gun. Then when you tighten own the shroud it will tension the barrel.

Ernest and someone else were selling these for awhile.

Another thing to do instead of a barrel band, and holds the barrel more snug than stock, is replacing every o-ring in the barrel system, including those on the outside that hold the barrel rigid withing the frame, with a harder compound urethane o-rings. From the factory they are a soft and standard rubber Buna 70. Install a hard urethane buna 90 everywhere. The harder compound o-rings don't deflect the barrel as much and distort with pressures of a foam gun case or leaning it against the wall of the safe.

Yes, I know they don't seem to be around any more. They are selling the longer barrel sleeve covers instead now. At least they are Carbon fiber my bushings were just Delrin.

If you have not yet done as Airgun-hobbyist suggests with the o-rings it is a very good start and will help quite a bit until you can get one of the carbon fiber parts.

A few people use barrel bands but not many.
