I just received my FX Impact 357 yesterday. I have had a 357 barrel kit for a few months now, but I wanted a actual 357 from FX to see if there are any differences, and I think there are. First thing I notices is the 357 barrel from the factory comes very dirty. I don't know if it is from testing or from the manufacturing process, but it is bad. With my barrel kit I just shot it without cleaning it. I got poor accuracy and when I cleaned it I thought it was fouling very badly. Now I believe it is just due to how they come from the factory. I cleaned this new barrel right away. It was very dirty and felt very rough when I was cleaning it. I thought " oh no, I am going to have to polish this barrel" but after a whole lot of cleaning patches it cleaned right up and felt nice and smooth like all of my other FX smooth twist barrels. I have not shot this gun for accuracy as of yet. I just shot it over the chrony to see what speed it was shooting.
I believe that there is more going on inside the 357 from the factory than what you get with the barrel kit. With the barrel kit I was able to get around 905 fps with the 81gr JSB pellets, that was with the reg set at 170 bar and with the power kit that comes with it. This gun came from the factory shooting the 81gr JSB at 900 fps at just 133 bar!!! That is a huge differences. And it sure seems to be shooting much smoother than my other one. This makes senses since the gun isn't working as hard.
My barrel kit did not like the Nielson 79 gr slugs at all but it shot the 93 gr great. It shot those at about 830 fps. I will be trying both slugs in this new 357 when the weather gets better here and I can find time. I also have some of the Griffin slugs coming that I will try out and let everyone know how they shoot.
