Fx Impact 2 Choice of barell lenght and caliber? With the new Power Plenum.

I guess it depends on what your are shooting or hunting and whether you like or need a slightly shorter length rifle. Of course you will get more power from the 700mm barrel and with the .25 cal. it will poke a bigger hole than the .22 caliber. With slugs up till now I have not believed people were getting the expansion they thought and my testing has bear that out to me. However with the new FX Hybrids the expansion in my tests has been remarkable. That would allow the .22 cal. to be even more effective than before at small critter put down. Slugs in general still do a great job longer distances particularly with the increased fpe the Impact is putting out. So save a little money shooting the .22 cal. in ammo costs or get better termination with the .25 cal. depending on how much power is needed. Bill

.25 all day with a slug liner.700mm.

Wait on the .35 to be released and youll cover everything from 20fpe to 150+FPE on one platform with two barrels out to 200yds.

What other gun offers that?

This, exactly.

Since you mention 125 yards and slugs in the same sentence I would go for the 700 mm barrel. The 700 mm barrel will give better performance (and more latitude) and on a short rifle like the Impact the extra 10 cm length shouldn't be an issue unless you hunt in dense brush.

The choice of caliber depends on how you will use the rifle MOST of the time.

If coyotes at 125 yards is typical of your shooting then .25 (or larger) will be best but ammo costs will be higher and shot count lower. Just keep in mind that high fpe and slugs can be a liability in more populated areas.

If you usually hunt smaller game at closer distances then the .22 should be fine for you.

Realistically, a .22 caliber Impact MK2.5 shooting slugs puts out as much fpe as a lot of .25 caliber rifles. I like the .22 caliber as it covers 98% of my needs in a practical way... for the other 2% that I want/need more fpe, I grab a rimfire.

Hope this helps.
