FX DRS Tactical - My first Post

Thought it's time I do my first post here with an Indian Myna taken this morning at close range (26m).

I have the FX DRS Tactical .22cal FAC version in 600mm, topped off with DNT Zulus v2, shooting 18.13gr JSB pellets at 914fps. Had it out on the range the other day and it shoots like a laser....

Daytime longer distance and nighttime rat hunts coming soon....😎

Awesome set up. Loving mine too! Which moderator is that?

It's a local "no name" brand made in South Africa, consisting of machined aluminium one piece baffel set and end cap inside a carbon fiber housing...
If it works it works. It looks very good.

Now, did you dial it up to shoot 914. mine came shooting 860 on the dot. brought the pressure up to 110 and am shooting at 915 with 18.13 now.

1st shot low velo after short rest?

I played around with a few tunes trying various pellets and lighter weight slugs... Finally settled on 120bar reg pressure, hammer spring dialed back 47clicks from max.

SD and ES are really tight and I get almost 60 shots per fill...hence the decision to stick to pellets rather than slugs...

110 sounds great...what's your hammer spring set at?

I didn't count from stock. Which was a mistake. I didnt go to zero when I started going up. I would assume Less than 25 clicks above stock setting. I brought it up to 932.9. Then dialed back to 890.. it settled down to 880. But the first shot velocity was a bit too low. So I brought it up to hitting 902-903 on the resting shot, then 912.5-914.3 on every single other shot.
Still getting near 4 mags. Thats 56-60

I need to shut off my autocorrect. I often have to come back to butchered auto inserts. I tuned up shooting resting shots then a series of 5-6 shots, letting it sit again, shot... then 5-6. 903-914 is totally acceptable. The gun prefers being closer to the pressure it is set at's peak velocity.. accurate as all hell. I plan to go to slugs in the 21-24gr range. Just waiting on the sekhmhet gauge in order to get precise pressure and work more informed.

Mmm interesting....I'd be keen to hear about your slug experience... Shot count for me was way too low, like 14shots....and I don't like filling up every few shots...

Reg anything from 150-160 and then play with hammer... I tried Zan 20gr, FX Hybrid 22gr, Javelin 18gr (the pellet liner love these, however, they're not yet commercially available, only test phase, so we buy in small batches), and then also tried Javelin 21gr and 23gr....

I took a risk on it. Extremely glad I got it. I plan on a 2nd. Its fantastic. The fixed magnification isnt a hinder close in as the monstrous field of view takes up the slack. A very good optic. Super glass quality... cant say enough good things about it.
Ill let you know when I start with slugs.
HN hp 21 and 23, Varmint knocker .22, Take aim 24 and Griffin LDC 17-19 OR 21 On the list of possible. nsa 20.2 shoot well. I tagged a squirrel with one going 820.

I dont plan on higher velocities with slugs. I would like a 2mag shot count minimum. Im thinking 23s at 940 would be as high as I try.

I am really looking at a 500 or 600 in 22 or 25 for squirrel busting. The price you can't beat. I have no intentions of ever slinging slugs just pellets and I would like three good mags per fill for hunting. If I shot three mags squirrel hunting even though I'm allowed 20 squirrels a day here in Oklahoma to be honest I don't wanna clean that many squirrels. Lol I've been looking at an Americana arms or a vet 2 or a Leshy 2. I just can't make my mind up do you guys think the DRS is good enough to be your main squirrel rifle. Not that we want just one gun lol

Ive got the 500mm. 3 mags at 860-880 at.stock pressure is not a challenge. Not at all.

Great. That's what I was curious about. I just can't decide whether to get a 22 or 25. I much prefer the 25 for squirrel hunting with the 26 grain Hades. To me they just kill so much better than 22.
Ive been experimenting as its been a long time since ive shot flesh with pellets.. these baracuda hunter extremes. And baracuda match have surprised me. The extreme flatten out to a nice. 28-.32 depending on how hard send them. The baracuda march flatten a surprising amount for domes and like high speed (both22) the shot count in .25 will not be so high in the 500

Ok great thanks again.

Hi Jon, the DRS in 22cal has more then enough power to take down squirrels, it will also give higher shots per fill than a .25cal...

Ok thanks. I want to keep it as short as possible so 500mm is as long as I want to go and if the hades shoot well that would work out just fine. I know it's needs a mod to help with sound. I will be running an immersive on it. I want to make sure mine is the gen 2 with the external hammer wheel and reg to tune it. I'm not a big power guy for air rifles. So as long as it's consistently accurate and dependable is what matters. I'm not a tinkier and once a find a tune I leave it be and just hunt and plink with it. I do like a decent shot count because I always find things to shoot at when the hunting slows down. lol.

Thanks
Jon
