FX Dreamline Tact .22 tuning

Regulator set to 110 bar

Transfer port to meduim

Image below is shot string for:

3). Hammer spring of 20 ( spread seems big for first half of shots)

1). Hammer spring of 24 max ( better but maybe not good)

2). Hammer spring from
Max to min and back to max (no plateau due to hammer spring not strong enough)

JSB .22 jumbo express 14.35 grains

I want to tune for best accuracy and not too concerned with speed. Groups at 27 yards seem ok but seem worse for first half of shots in string and better for second half of shots. Maybe eventually tune for 20 ft lbs to practice for field target.

How can I get the hammer spring to the edge of the plateau or is that even important? Adjust regulator? Get power plenum? I need some help.

Matt

You’re not making this easy but I can tell your guns max speed is around 960fps. That’s too fast. Without getting into too much detail and possibly confusing you, just do this. Set your wheel on max. Leave the TP wheel on medium. Turn down your reg a quarter turn at a time and fire 5 shots until you get around 915fps. Then turn your wheel down until you hit around 880fps. The last thing you should concern yourself with is more plenum. Your gun is fine as is for what you want to shoot. At its current settings, it wants to shoot 18gr pellets.

Thank you. I did exactly what you said.

HS to max.

Turned regulator Dow 1/4 turn at a time and fire 5 shots. After a bit more than half a turn it was at 915 fps.

Turn HS down until 880 fps. The HS is now at 12 of 24.

Pump up cylinder to 230bar and shoot 90 shots before velocity starts to drop. Shot 9 more to watch it go down. The shot string looks similar in shape to my earlier ones, just lower velocity. Is this normal? For the first 90 shots, spread was 23 and std dev was 5.3. Is this good?

The first 60 shot were at a 10m rifle paper target at 27 yards with 5 shots at each target. I’m pretty happy with the accuracy. Is this good for this gun? It was a bit breezy but not bad.

If you like, I’d like to be confused and understand the why of what you recommended.

Thanks again.
Matt

Everything looks as good as it’s going to get. Especially if you were shooting with even a slight breeze. Your shot count should be excellent and your gun should sound great. Don’t ever concern yourself with numbers if the accuracy is there. Unregulated guns will shoot as good as yours or better with an extreme spread that would have numbers guys jaws hitting the ground. Enjoy your gun. I have the same gun except a compact. I have a couple Impacts, Edguns, RTI, Taipans and so on. My Dreamline is my favorite pellet gun to shoot. It’s a well behaved smooth shooter. If you switch to 18gr pellets, go back to that old reg setting. Set the wheel on max and see how fast it is. Shave about 4% off that speed with your calculator then set your wheel to that speed. Always try not to make a mountain out of a molehill. All you are doing by backing your wheel down from the max speed is setting your hammer strike on the knee of the reg setting. That’s generally where happiness is found.

You already did it once, now you have to do it again. But now you don’t have to turn your wheel to max because we know that max or #24 on your wheel is powerful enough for max speed at your previously original reg setting. So we don’t beat the piss out of your valve, set it on maybe #20 then start turning down the reg and shooting again until you hit 820fps. Then back your wheel down to 790fps. Now your pellets are under 20ftlbs. I think you have enough left on that wheel to get that low. If not, you have to get out your 1.5mm hex wrench and back off the hammer screw. Backing off or increasing that screw just moves the operating parameters of your wheel. You shouldn’t have to worry about it though. FX must have upgraded the Dreamlines with a jumbo wheel compared to my gun. You will have a broader more linear control of your hammer strike than the older models.

This is where your hammer screw is. Judging by what I’m seeing, you should never have to touch it. It would appear that FX set it to cover a wide berth of pellet weights and reg settings with that jumbo Impact wheel. The only time you will have to touch it or consider an additional plenum would be if you wanted to attempt to shoot JSB RDM’s or slugs. Both are heavy so you’ll have to move all your tuning parameters up. I would strongly advise against both.

This a great thread and timely for me. I recently had my Dreamline .22 serviced by a big-name shop....all good except I went from about 60 shots per fill (at around 110 bar on the reg) to now just over 40 for no reason that I have enough experience to discern. This is a tube version of the rifle.

TP at medium, PW at 4 (after playing with the above instructions), and I'm averaging 887 for 40 shots with very little deviation. Then a fast and dramatic drop. It's driving me crazy. I see MattFritz is now getting 90 shots per fill with what appear to be similar settings...can you guys just point me in the direction of what I need to be looking at? Thanks.
