Tuning FX Crown

Mine has a 500mm barrel. I upped the reg pressure from factory (110) to 125. I also increased the hammer spring fine tuning screw by ~5.5 turns, and the transfer port is on Hi. It shoots the 16.2 gr Beasts very well at a muzzle velocity of 849 fps on hammer spring wheel setting 'A' (older gun but still a Mk2).

If I go to MAX on the hammer spring wheel my muzzle velocity jumps to 875 fps, but better accuracy was seen at the current ~850 fps setting.

Anybody out there shoot an Fx Crown in 177? Wondering what you had for reg pressure and other settings. Thinking about getting a 177 kit for my 22 version to shot the new 177 slugs.
April last year bought a laminate .22 Crown MK2 with a 600mm barrel, factory set at 95bar (for 18grains shooting).

Somewhat later purchased a .177 super light kit with superior in 600mm plus a Huma .177 pin probe, and the two available versions of the JSB .177 slugs, which were subsequently shot on that same 95 bar factory setting (and using a Huma pin probe).

  • The lighter 4,51mm JSB slugs (10,03grains) performed rather poorly, at whatever hammer spring setting. Tried velocities between 275m/s and 295m/s (900fps – 965fps) but always with disappointing grouping results (at target distances of 50m/55yards, at 65m/70yards and at 75m/80yards)

  • However, the heavier 4,52mm JSB slugs (13,43grains) shot at around 285m/s (935fps) surprisingly did quite well, with groups well under an inch at 75m target distance and even much tighter at shorter target distances (outdoor conditions no wind)

At the moment i m again shooting the .22 barrel kit, but as soon as my ordered .177 H&N slugs and .177 JSB Redesigned come in, i ll give them a go.
