Yeah, the original finish is pretty light, so it's pretty easy to sand out, not sure how much a mild stripping agent would help. But not really needed, aside from the stipling if you want to pull the finish out of there.

I just used a bunch of coats of walnut (colored) danish oil. I originally did mine in un-colored oil, but it was way too light. It looked strange. Also polished in several coats, too.

That looks nice. I have done projects with Watco Oil. It is a type of Danish oil. Comes in several tints and makes a real nice satin finish. Well done man!


Thanks! It actually did take a long time, but I love the way it turned out. Not too dull, not too shiny. And super easy to repair/maintain if need be!

was wondering what is on the a original finish so can u go over it or does it have to be removed first?

I would definitely remove the finish. It's rather dull and muting
