FX Crown vs. 12oz Cans at 280m / 306y

What a gorgeous day it was today! I had to take advantage of the weather and play with my scope again. I setup some cans at 180 meters, and some at 280 meters. 

The cans that I setup at 180m were easy. I had paper targets setup at 35m, 100m, 175m and 335m (not a typo, and yes I was grouping!) - so I wound up kind of cheating with the closer cans, having shot a couple of mags first at the 175m target so it took all of 4 shots to put them down (I recorded the action, but autofocus was autofail).

Here's some video that I shot at the longer range cans. My Crown was tuned right around 60FPE today, Strelok calculates the 30gr slugs had 24FPE by the time they hit the cans. My scope mounting was all jacked up, but I still had a great time shooting :)

I had a close call with a Hummingbird yesterday while I was shooting out to 175m. It flew right in front of my muzzle, and hovered for a few seconds! Little did it know that it was a second away from catching a bullet train traveling at 950fps lol. I'll have to dig through the video I shot and see if I captured the encounter.

Un-Freaking-Believable!!! Like Fuss, I can't even master 100yds with my .25 HM1000X! Thanks for sharing and giving us an incentive to reach waaay out there.

Early in the video when you were shooting at paper - what was the distance? Was thinking that might be a more attainable goal to start with. THX!

That paper target was 100 meters / 109 yards out, on the money.

Which 30 gr. slugs are you using? They must have an incredible BC. My 60 fpe, .25 RAW @940 fps w/ 34 gr. JSBs takes twice as long to impact a 100 yd target. At 300 yds your flight time is almost exactly the same as my carefully tailored .22-250 handloads @3600 fps using 50 gr. Noslers with a G1 of .150. Am keenly aware of this time as it is necessary to recover from recoil and see the hit on a PD.

I'm using .217 Varmint Knockers. I pulled a bunch of data with the LabRadar, but I have to sift through it since it has a hard time registering with these .22's past 50y or so.

When I spot checked some of the readings, the 0-10y data showed 0.145 on average and 0.141 from 0-50y. This was from a large order that I placed with Dale, I don't know if they're different from the other 30gr that I've purchased from him before- I typically get 0.095-0.11 from 0-50y (but there's usually a strong headwind! Yesterday was nice, with a calm / light breeze, and sunny)!

Much further than I ever expected. I wasted a good part of the day adjusting the scope rings, by then time I sorted it out the sun was right in between me and my 335m target, so it was hard to see where my POIs were. I'm anxious to get back out and test again at that distance.

The big gold one sat out yesterday, I had a lighter one in there with another test spring that I cut down. I'm working on optimizing hammer recoil, and I've made great progress in a short amount of time 💪

Thanks man! I got inside my own head a little with the scope misalignment and from there, it was pretty much exactly that LOL

BC doesn't seem to make much difference for a given speed according to Strelok. For 950fps, here's what a static BC of 0.09 is compared with 0.14..
