FX Crown upgrades and questions

I've been out of circulation for a while, but planning to jump back into airgunning with an FX Crown. It's been about a year since the Crown was released and wondering if:

1. any upgrades/modifications are in the works by FX?
2. did the FX Crown plattform mature enough?
3. are various caliber kits (probe, barrel, liner, etc) available separately?
4. are the FX Crown caliber kits compatible with the FX Impact?
5. what's the latest on the FX USA service center?

Thank you for your inputs!

The caliber and barrel kits are arriving later this month or April I believe.
I think there is still only one smooth twist x available twist rate. There is a longer 700mm .25 and .30 barrel though.

Yes the barrel kits you buy separate from the Crown is interchangeable between Impact and Crown.
I have not yet contacted FX USA but have read that they are almost all finished setting up with Ernest heading the service department and they plan on releasing some Master Class videos to help customers service and tune their own FX rifles.

Thank you both for the info. I called around a couple of dealers and the walnut Crown in .177 and .22 is mostly available.. I am told that they are expecting some shipments for the Crown this month. Also the Crown X-twist caliber kits and Impact X-twist kits (around $270 which I think is the barrel/probe only) at the end of March or in April. One of the dealers also said that the Crown X-twist caliber kit is not the same as the Impact X-twist caliber kit because of the inleting and mounting, but he did not sound convincing. I need to check my Impact and see what he is talking about. I sent a PM to Ernest already, but he must be super busy.

"crusher75060"So far I think the Crown is about as good as it gets. I have one myself and it is probably the best I have. Dead accurate out to 100 yards easily. If you are considering a Crown, you are considering one of the best. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

Meanwhile a guy with a Wildcat can out shoot it.
No airgun is dead accurate to 100 yards, easily.

"SocalTrail"NO airgun is accurate to 100 yards easily???? Not following. I have a couple of airguns that do just fine at 100 yards... easily.
Good , then you can show me a 75 yard group that is under 1/2 inch over 10 shots, or more.
Lets see it.
ShootistX - Still waiting for you to top the 5 shot group at 100 in this thread, quit pissing around with 75 yards if you're trying to make a statement. Also if you put your reply BELOW the grey shaded out area it will actually look like a reply.

ShootistX-
Easy there bud. First off, everyone has their own definition of what “dead accurate” is. Based on your comment I am assuming you only thing a rifle that can put 10 shots inside of 1/2" at 75 yards is accurate enough for you. I shoot a lot of long range precision rifle and even for a precision center fire bolt gun, 10 shots into 1/2” or less at 100 yards is some pretty extraordinary shooting. Also, why 75???? What makes that the magic yardage?

But... I will get out and see what I can do at 100 yards with my WARP or Crown. I consider both of those rifles “dead accurate.”

Back to the OP’s thread....

The Crown is a phenomenal platform. I personally own a .22 cal Crown and have yet to stretch it past 50 yards. Everything is well made and precise. The Crown may have been released nearly a year ago, but they are still only trickling to dealers. Some have a decent backlog of orders still from what I understand. I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

Under half inch for 10 shots is more of a test for the shooter than it is for the gun.
Every serious shooter knows that. Excuse me for being ignorant, but I don't get your point.
:)

ShootistX, as I understand, yours is smaller than anyone else's (group size that is), but it's not necessary for you to show...

Completely agree with this: "Under half inch for 10 shots is more of a test for the shooter than it is for the gun". Everyone can get a lucky 5-shot or 10-shot once in a while, but repeating it successively takes a good/experienced shooter. Of course you must have an airgun capable of such accuracy. Some of my airguns can do amazing groups, but my technique needs constant revision and modifications which requires more time than I currently can spend. However, Ted's example shows that by constant daily practice and learning from trials/errors he did win the Benchrest eventually.

Looks like some 40ea FX Crown came in this week at one dealer and most are already gone (all the .25 cals). Since I already have an FX Impact I may just get a .25 cal X-twist barrel/liner kit. Either the factory FX Impact X-Twist upgrade kit, or the FX Crown caliber-kit. I believe that very little does it matter if I place the powerplant of the Impact or the FX Crown behind the same X-Twist barrel. Most would agree that the traditional rifle stock may give better stability/accuracy, but again...the shooter who really matters. As the example of Ted illustrates it by beating several traditional rifles with his short Impact bullpup.

Just not sure how much tear-down or modifications would be required putting the .25cal barrel/liner meant for the FX Crown on the FX Impact?

@AirSupply , thank you for link to Ernest's video! It explains exactly the barrel swap from the Crown to the Impact. Yes, like you said (Ernest also just confirmed it) the shrouds are not interchangeable. But, it's not clear if you can swap the Impact X-twist upgrade barrel to the Crown? The reason I am asking because if I purchase an FX Crown let's say in a .22cal version

Leaving the Crown to Impact barrel swap aside, apparently there are two factory options for the Impact X-twist upgrade. One is the "limited time" cheaper version for $260 which is just the barrel. The other one is a $400 kit with a barrel and shroud, pellet probe and stackable moderator. I think the "kit" has a 700mm long barrel (???), while the "limited time" (naked) barrel seems to be the standard length 600mm. FYI: here is a discussion on the 700mm length from a year ago: http://www.airgunnation.com/topic/fx-impact-barrel-lenght/

Just came across this at HardAir Magazine: FX Smooth Twist X Barrel Now Available For FX Impact Owners
https://hardairmagazine.com/news/fx-smooth-twist-x-barrel-now-available-fx-impact-owners/embed/

From that article, I am not clear about this: "Additional Smooth Twist X Barrel liners will be available March 2018 with different twist rates and bore specifications"
So that seems to apply to the Impact (?). There will be another X-twist barrel that has a liner inside and you can change the liner out with other twist rates/calibers?

Some discussions on this one:

Swedish Royalty – The FX Crown air rifle
http://www.airgunsofarizona.com/blog/2017/03/swedish-royalty-the-fx-crown-air-rifle.html/embed

It's a bit confusing. What I am hoping to get as a minimum is a .25 barrel/liner combo for the Impact that allows me to swap out twist rates. Next, it would be nice if that same Impact liner would allow the swap out of the caliber also from example .25 to .22. All this in the 700mm size. So this makes me wonder, if the FX Crown barrel/liner would fit inside the Impact? Do not want to buy an Impact upgrade kit to X-twist for $400 which limits me to just one caliber and one twist rate if they will come out with a barrel/liner option. Or I may opt to go for the cheaper $260 "naked" X-twist barrel instead, but then I am also stuck with one caliber and one twist rate only.

Confusing enough? :)

Still being somewhat new to the higher end PCP's. I can say there is one hell of a difference not only between 50-75 and 100 yards? But also between 5 and 10 shot groups at any of those ranges. Sub 1" at 100 yards? I have only done it once with my Daystate AW .25. I also learned you don't just jump from 50 to 100 yards and have success. It takes another level of focus, concentration, practice, reading wind, ect ect ect. As Weatherby said, that is on the shooter. How far do you go, or not, prepping your ammo. I wash, weigh, sort by weight, but haven't started sorting by head size and rolling yet. Having ordered a Crown in .25? I will.
For me? The reason I'm willing to scrimp and save to do this? There is a science to precision airgun shot making. It's challenging and rewarding to me when I make a great shot, or a great group.
I am doing the work to impress me first. I know bullpuckey when I read it, we all do!

Every smooth-x barrel has a barrel liner. These liner will be available in in
a: different twist rates
d: choked or not
c: not certain but I think the percentage of the liner that is rifled.
These will be specific to the caliber and length of the barrel.
If you want to change caliber or length you will need a new barrel specifically for that caliber and probe regardless of weather it’s a Crown or Impact.

If if you have an Impact say in .25 cal. Then you have a probe and shroud already. So that is where the naked barrel upgrade comes in. You get a .25cal smooth x barrel and swap it for your smooth twist barrel. Now you can get different liners for that barrel. They are allowing people to upgrade to the smooth x at a reasonable price and not hitting them for the cost of a whole new barrel kit and making them buy the parts they already have.

The 700mm barrel which has been referred to as the sniper barrel as far as I’m aware was designed for the Impact. Because of the bullpup design of the Impact the 700mm barrel isn’t overly long. It copes well with the extra 100mm length.
Now there will be nothing stopping you putting this barrel on your Crown but it will be a very long rifle. I don’t think it’s what fx had in mind but people are bound to give it a go.
Hope this helps
