has anyone refinished a fx crown walnut stock , was wondering what is on it now and can u hand rub over old finish with out stripping , with true oil or something on that order?

I've done mine. Not sure what coating is on but it's pretty thin. I would recommend sanding it off, then using a Walnut stain (the wood underneath was VERY light), then after drying, use whatever finish you desire. I used an oil finish for a semi-matte look, and it's also very easy to touch up if it ever gets scraped or dinged. I did several base coats of oil, sanding and polishing it in. With 8 final coats with increasingly finer abrasive.
Wanted to add that I also used a mild citrus stripper to get the finish out of the stipling

Look at Centercut's post "Like a Boss" a few pages past this one. Just had his Boss' walnut stock refinished & posted pics. You could also PM Socaloldman (Nick) who did the work. Should get you the answers you seek. Happy New Year!

That is one nice looking stock using that Briwax. I was going to use Truoil, might try Briwax. I guess it's applied in the same methods.
