my shroud has become very hard to extend and retract. i need to twist back and forth to move it. and it squeaks as i do it. i have never had it apart. does it need lube?

Yes, there are couple of O-rings in the cone piece. Extend it, clean the barrel tube off and lube it lightly or you could take it all the way off and clean the full length of the barrel tube and O-rings but there is always a chance the of the air stripper unscrewing off the end of the barrel tube and staying in the shroud so I'd go the short route and see if that doesn't do it. There is also a O-ring on the air stripper that can get dirty and fouled. If you end up going the long route clean the ID of the shroud and the O-ring on the air stripper.
