Fx crown .25 gen1

In an effort to cure the faulty original magazine ( every 7 or 8 th pellet hole in mag clipped the lid. Unsurprisingly there were flyers every 7th and 8th shot) purchased 2 of the latest types which have a opening lid making it much easier to load. Trouble is they are very stiff to install and even harder to remove. Basically they do not slide in and out. I measured the width, original one was 14.72 mm latest ones are 15.10 mm. They cannot even make b...y magazines properly. Sad to say I shall not buy any more Fx guns.

I have the same gun -

someone told me that when you install a side shot or the Impact high capacity magazine system, you need to remove the little rubber balls in the breech area. Those little balls are to keep the original magazines tight, but aren't needed for the new mags as they fight tighter on their own.

I wouldn't lose the little rubber balls, but do try removing them and see if that helps.

Edit:

Was early in the morning when I replied - brain fog. apologies. I was referencing an Impact. But if it helps, my impact mags are 14.8mm thick. Not sure how that plays to a crown, but whatever.

It is kind of a standard 'trick' to put a magazine into the breech when re-installing the barrel after, for example, deep cleaning it. The barrel being too far into the breech can result in even your existing magazines fitting too tightly.

Loosen the barrel retaining bolts, slide in one of your newly purchased magazines, than push the barrel back in. Check magazine fit, and repeat process if still too tight. You should be able to get to the point where your new mags fit and function nicely.

All of my Gen1 Crowns work with the new SideShot magazines just fine. And I just verified that my .25 mags are 15.10 mm thickness as well.

However measured them breech mag opening on my gun, measures 14.70 mm! Magazine is 15.10 mm no wonder it is mighty tight!

That measurement of your magazine slot seems awfully tight!

I just measured my 'older' gen 1 Crown and magazine slot was 15.15mm. Figured I would check my even older Royale, which is definitely pre-side-shot magazines, and it measures 15.00 mm. These are measurements of the slot itself, and do not account for the gold portion of the barrel sticking into the magazine slot. The thickness of my Royale magazine is 14.95mm. I only have 1 pre-side-shot Crown magazine (.22 cal) and it is 14.80 mm thick.

One regularly hears about FX making on-the-fly engineering changes during rifle production, where a rifle coming off the line one afternoon may be made to a different engineering spec from one which came off the line that very morning.

All I can think of is that maybe your Crown was a very early production model, and FX later changed the specification of the magazine slot width for improved magazine fit.

Um possibly. My gun was sent back by dealer as not fit for purpose to FX. Received it back via dealer appx 4 weeks later. Who tested it extensively prior to shipping to me. Early Gen 1. Double checked that breech measurement (digital caliper) reads 14 70 mm.

All of which is why I have had it with Fx and their belleville washers, droopy poi , tiny springs and ball bearings. Enough.

Thanks though for trying.
