FX CROWN .25 AND DONNYFL SHOGUN!!!

I searched everywhere and for quite a long time for a used Daystate Red Wolf, Air Wolf, FX Impact or Crown. I never could find what I was looking for in the right caliber for the right price, so on our recent vacation through Utah I made a quick 5 minute detour off of I-15 and ended up in Mapleton, Utah. For those of you who don't know, Mapleton, Utah is the home of UTAH AIRGUNS... what a great experience! I took a look at the Impact and Crown and decided on the Crown Synthetic in .25 because I'm a leftie, the Crown was more comfortable and really wanted a full sized gun. And, because length isn't an issue and the synthetic Crown is a full pound lighter than the others, I decided to get the Donny FL adapter and Shogun to round out the package. I couldn't be happier!!! The gun feels awesome, looks bad ass, is superbly accurate and is so quiet! Thanks to everyone at UTAH AIRGUNS and DONNY FL for the great service and great products!!!

For those of you with a Crown or even an Impact. I was told that these guns come pretty dialed in from the factory. I would like to adjust the regulator from around 130 bar to 150 bar for a tad more power when trying out the JSB 33.95gr. pellets, or even for the 25.39gr. for that matter. I realize I will get fewer shots per fill, but even if the higher reg. pressure drops me from 80 shots per fill down to 55-60 shots per fill and shoots the JSB 33.95 gr. pellets at a higher velocity with increased accuracy, I'm absolutely fine with that. Accuracy followed by energy are my two main concerns! I would like to get chrono readings and shot strings from all regulator settings from 130-150 bar in 5 bar increments. Does anybody with this gun have any thoughts, comments or suggestions on adjusting the regulator settings or adjusting anything else for that matter? Is there anything I need to know, other than not to make adjustments to a lower setting with air pressure in the tank/gun? I'd like to shorten the learning curve and get this thing dialed in as soon as possible so I can move on to the fun stuff like getting some good notes and DOPE out to 150+ yards.

Congrats on the new FX Crown .25. I got the same synthetic Crown in .25 with the DonnyFL Tatsu on mine. I noticed a barrel droop with the moderator despite having the shroud collapsed, with pellets hitting a few inches down at 50 yards. I ended up removing the Tatsu and just extending the shroud as the loudness was about the same to my ears. If you plan on shooting longer distances, I'd recommend you get some FX No Limit scope rings as they'll compensate for the barrel droop.

I have not touched any settings on mine. I shoot at Max power on the power wheel and have yet to chrony the pellets myself. Utah Airguns says my max velocity is 910 fps on their testing before shipping it out. I'll do some pellet velocity testing later this fall when the weather isn't as hot and humid outside.

My regulator out of the box is around 130 bar according to the gauge. Hope this helps! Mine is a laser and is more than accurate for the hunting I do.

Thanks for the info. I'll take decibel readings with the shroud collapsed, extended and collapsed with the moderator on to get some actual real world readings. I understand the concept of barrel droop but I've never seen it actually happen. The shroud is held in place at the muzzle by the air stripper and O-rings and the barrel, and shroud combined should be plenty sturdy to hold the weight of a moderator without it drooping. I believe you, just need to see for myself. When I shot it the first time, I had it sighted in with about 6 shots. I didn't shoot at any real distance past 30yds. so I wouldn't be able to notice droop. I'll shoot a lot further tomorrow and learn a lot more. I'll tell you what I find out. Thanks, Stoti

The barrel on the Crown is held in place by two screws near the breech block. If you apply a little pressure to the shroud, the POI will shift, since the barrel itself is a floating barrel but is directly in contact with the shroud.

I had bought the Tatsu to stick on the end of the shroud since it was the smallest/lightest moderator that Donny makes, but it still shifted the POI down. Reason I bought it was that there was info on the forum that the rifle is a bit more accurate with the shroud in vs shroud out at longer ranges, likely due to harmonics related to a longer dangling barrel/shroud.

I could not tell a difference in accuracy with shroud in vs out in the 50 yard distances I shoot at so I just opted to leave the moderator off and just use the shroud extended when needing it quiet.
Do test it out yourself and see what happens.

Cool, thanks for the info. Glad you told me. If there is a POI change and I didn't know what was going on, might have given me a headache. The gun is pretty quiet with the shroud out, I was planning on shooting it with the shroud in and the moderator but if there is only a couple of decibels difference and it's still quiet enough for where I live in the country, I can just shoot it with the shroud out and return or sell the silencer. It was $185 plus $50 for the adapter. I can still return it since it's only a few days old. I could pay for half a new scope with the money if I return it! We'll see what happens tomorrow when I get to shoot it a lot. Thanks, Kevin
