FX Chrono tips

Like mine a lot. Immediately put some velcro straps on it to use instead of rubber bands.

I did set my 'Radar Return' setting to 10%, which is a little more sensitive than I think it comes from the factory.

Once it picked up a 'shot' when it was on the muzzle and I was walking with the gun (or swung the muzzle up to the target area while placing the gun on the bench).

Has always picked up every shot where the pellet speed has been within the set range.

Never any weird readings, where I had to scratch my head and say 'is that reading accurate?'

Once when I was doing a full shot string on an unregulated rifle, I wanted to keep getting numbers as the pellet speed dropped out of the set range. IIRC when I then reset the chrony to a lower range, I lost my previous shot string (fortunately I had saved it). Just something to think about.

I think that its usable life with alkaline batteries is good.

I have tested it with low power powder burners (Cowboy Action Shooting revolvers with light power rounds) and it worked great.

I haven't pulled out my LabRadar since I got my FX Chrony - maybe time to sell the LabRadar.

I find mine to be very finicky. I really like the smartphone integration but the ability to read velocity reliably is what really matters so I end up using a $30 clamp-on model from AliExpress most of the time. It has its own infrared light source and NEVER misses a reading. Since most of my projects are regulated PCPs, I need to know the first shot will register so I can see if regulator creep is an issue. Persnickety chronographs that miss the first shot go onto my poop list. I mean, I’m pretty mild mannered most of the time but I find that infuriating.

This type of chronograph works in any light conditions, even total darkness which comes in handy for me because I’m often tuning at night and I can just step out into the back yard and do a quick check with no time wasted in setup.

It’s not without its shortcomings though. It only reads in meters per second and has no way to programmatically retrieve the shot string. So I’ll use the FX or Prochrono on occasions where those factors are relevant.

I like it a lot hanging from the barrel. Seems to work great since they came up with the barrel attachment. I’ve always found it to read best when at the end of the barrel on all my rifles. When I put it back, it seems to miss more. It fits in my range bag easily and I can aim any direction and it is always in the right place. It does eat batteries pretty quickly though.

I don’t like the POA shift with it on the barrel, but I know what to expect so I adjust for it. I am actually working on something like Ernest has in one of videos that attaches it to a rod along the side of the barrel, by using pic rails. The old bottle attachment rod worked fairly well, but only with certain rifles, due to the length differences. The barrel attachment makes it work great with any rifle.

I'm gonna like this! Quick took it out of the box and threw it on the end of the EVOL. In the dark outside shooting wherever I wanted (safely) and it picked up every shot. App seems to work well for my needs also.
