Your hot oil bath is a great idea. The resin system they use is probably not rated for very high temperature. Using a hair dryer can over heat a localized area and weaken the resin bonding the fibers together.

Epoxy degrades readily at temps above 200°F

When I was testing carbon composite regular epoxy composite specimens weren't tested above 180F.

Just for the info there's a lot of different resin systems out there. I've tested them from -75f all the way up to 550f. I have no idea what resin or fiber is used to make these bottles. I'm farely sure the composites used to make the FD scba bottles are a higher class of composite that has to meet a required specification for exposures to chemicals and heat.
