FX BOSS TUNEUP

I've got a FX Boss that I really feel could be putting up tighter groups at 100 yds, that being said I'm pretty ignorant on the processes of shorting and or sizing pellets. I might get 1 out of 6 groups at 1 inch ctc at 100 yds. I've been weighing them out at a 10th plus or minus 1/10TH per tin. Any suggestions on how to tighten this up would be greatly appreciated. Are there folks who can tune these guns for better consistently. Thanks, Sal (side note, I'm shooting a tin strong every outing at the local range)

1 inch groups at 100 yards takes some practice and are not easy to shoot outdoors. Are you using wind flags? Is your bench set up stable? Do you own a chrony? What grain pellet are you shooting? Almost all FX Bosses prefer the 44 grain. If the Boss is not shooting each pellet close to the same fps 100 yard groups will suffer. Pellets clipping the LDC will not allow good groups.

I have found measuring the heads to help more with accuracy than weighing pellets. If your Boss has no issues weighting and finding the heads size it shoots best will help with accuracy. Pelletgauge.com sells a tool that measures the heads for about $40 shipped if I remember right.

Sal, I have a Boss I shoot quite a lot and what you are describing is just good shooting now. Especially if your shooting outside. I have tried weighing and sorting and to be honest I can say there is an improvement but only slightly. I have shot the 44 and 50 grain JSB's, lubed and not . My gun likes the 44grains lightly lubed. Even that makes a small difference. Maybe taking the groups from 2" to 1" at 100Y. I have yet to see someone that can shoot constant 100Y 1" groups. My GUN is capable of shooting sub MOA, but then will throw a flier. I have not for the life of me been able to figure those out. Another thing I have noticed. If I shoot 4-5 25 round cards in a sitting my 1st is always the best, so in my case the inconsistency is me not the gun. I have tried to be aware of my air pressures when I get a flyer, but I haven't identifed a pattern. I fill to 240b, burn two sighters and shoot the 25 shot card. There are some good tuners out there and if you find tuning helps I would be really interested. In my case I think the tune-up need to be done on ME. Maybe we could get Neil to put on a week long shooter tun-up corse in Mexico oe Jamaca with sone hot scantly clad assistants.

Sal, if you're seeing your heartbeat in the focus, that might indicate the bench you're using could be more stable. What's your bench set up like? One out of six groups of MOA at 100 yards is very respectable. I don't think anything is "wrong" with your gun. 100 yards is challenging outdoors Definitely size the pellets and find with head diameter your barrel likes. That will help. A tune would help some. It's all little things that add up. Had a Boss once. Pretty awesome gun. Enjoy!
