What is the best configuration of bevel washers in mk1 crown with 16 mm piston ?

I'd guess the latter. Easy mistake to make.

“Best” is dictated by the regulated pressure you wish to achieve. Otherwise a good place to start is the original factory configuration.

Is there anyway to figure out the 'stack' configuration to reach a given setting?

Knowing the diameters of both ends of the piston, and the flat rating of the Bellevilles will let you get a rough idea of the maximum achievable pressure.

I'd love to see if these can be pushed to 1600-1700 or if it'll require too long of a stack. Based both on the calculations and my test trials, you will need to use nested pairs (or heavier singles) to achieve pressures in that range.

Not to be argumentative about it, but a Belleville washer is beveled, which gives it its conical or sloped shape.
