Are the groves and recessions on the FX barrel a necessity? I'm prepping a TJ barrel and didn't know if I could just leave that area at the full diameter? The blank will screw in to a Huma dual transfer port thimble.

From what I've read they are for the grub screw to fit between so liner can't slip by the grub screw but I don't know for sure I have noticed that the grub screw marks are in the center of those so I wouldn't think they are important really

Got my answer. It's so the barrel retaining screws don't produce a burr damaging the inside of the breech when you remove the barrel.

Of coarse his barrel in his Artemis is better, it’s only 15”, shoots 1200fps and hits same hole in the mud at 200yds

If you have an machine indexer, just machine a flat spot.
or use a drill bit to make a small spot for the grub screw to index.
Depending on the gun action…sometimes u can use the actions to layout the machine work.
insert the barrel, lightly tighten one grub screw, and use transfer punches to mark the second grub screw and airport
