FX .22 Hybrid Slug 22gr.

As I dive further down the rabbit hole; I find myself searching(using the search bar) for very specific topics or items in general.
So; I will from now on be TRYING to document and record all pellets/slugs that I use and placing them in a thread with their actual name and detail(pics and descriptions, etc).
Hoping to add some more easily findable information to the site and help to others decisions/purchases by doing so.***feel free to add any and all advice and comments/concerns, tunes, etc.

Up first, we haaaaave:

The fx series hybrid slugs coming in at 22 grains.
Very shiny!
A bit of a trick to get the ammo out but I dig it(reminds me of shotshell primers).
Load nice and easy in magazines.

Where I've found the FX Hybrid's to shine is in barrels that are choked that aren't supposed to shoot slugs well. My theory is that the hollow design allows them to conform to the choke more easily...

Like any projectile, accuracy will ultimately depend on how well they match your particular barrel. I've only shot them from a 700mm CZ Taipan Veteran barrel and found them to be extremely accurate at 300 m/s(985 fps)...sub 1/2" 5 shot groups are the norm at 50 meters.

Performance on birds is phenomenal...great expansion and energy transfer. They also seem to retain there mass quite well upon impacting more dense object...i.e. solid 3/4" oak board at 80 meters in my testing...

Honestly i like to hear and see what you say + the in the field/ range results you get from them in any gun your shooting them with..

I haven't had a 22 yet that likes them, but my Cricket Tac 2 does in 25. The 25 version opens up quick. With head-on shots I have taken several squirrels as close as 18 y with no pass through. The ones that have bounce off the soft wood behind.

I do think they take some energy behind them. I just shot one in gel going 460 fps (10.3 FPE), and had zero expansion. It pentrated about 5.5" and tumbled. Right now the only 22 i have here is a 2250 that shoots AA 16gr at 600 fps. When I get my higher power 22 back I can shoot some gel again.




This is a 25 at 48 FPE

I am a huge fan of the Hybrid Slugs in .30cal, and my FX Maverick VP loves them! They are very accurate and most of all, they have massive expansion, which limits collateral damage to nearby structures as they give up so much energy after they hit prey.

No slug maker I have encountered has a surface finish that can come close to the Hybrids. You really have to see it to believe it!

OR you could go direct to the manufacturer in Lewiston Idaho. Rocky Mountain Reloading and save a bit. You don't get the pretty box but...the boxes are hard to open anyway so who needs them.

One thing that should be mentioned here with the FX hybrid's is the impressive ballistic to weight ratio. The .08 BC of the Hybrid's is similar to the BC of many other similar slugs that are 2-4 grains heavier. I do find them to get pushed around a bit in the wind at 47 fpe.

I found out today how dirty they are. First look inside the hollow point, that needs to be cleaned a little, I used some hard cotton swabs to break it loose, then a nice bath in a ultrasonic cleaner with alcohol, 120 seconds, then agitate well, and repeat. then a lovely rubdown with a microfiber towel with beeswax furniture polish. If you really want to get into it, blow out the hollow point with air prior to the bath. The last photo is only a small part of what came out of 500 slugs. Does it make a difference, yes, I tested today at 50 yards, groups with a touch better clean and not clean. it's a long and tedious process I'm still not sure they are really clean. The ultrasonic cleaner is from Amazon along with a few quarts of alcohol. I actually did smaller batches of pellets. As a caution, I'd wear a mask is using air to blow out the pellets to avoid inhalation of the lead.
